Black Sand

How do you get more black sand? I picked up all the stars I found but Ive run out of ways to get black sand. I cant make it yet, Im at the point where I need to hold the party.

I managed to fish some up from a portal and have also just found some for purchase with stars from the merchant Gerbo.
