Making people pay for the base game wouldn't solve the problem; it would just make it harder for players to enjoy the game with their friends and make it less accessible. Plus, it doesn’t guarantee we'd be able to fund big additions like bot support.
Cross-play on its own won’t be a long-term fix, but combining it with a revamped region system (which has been a challenge for our community), improving bot support, and polishing the game as a whole is the best way forward for us.
Once we feel we have the community’s support to move forward, we’ll start crunching the numbers and figure out the smallest Kickstarter goal we can aim for. Like I mentioned in our community check-in, Nick and I will stay part-time developers to keep costs low, and we’ll only take pay for what’s necessary to reach our goal. And, if we don’t hit the crowdfunding goal, everyone’s money will be refunded, and we’ll keep working as we always have.
Since the game is free, microsoft and sony should let you play without gamepass. Hence mutiversus and the finals as big free multiplayer games are able to be played without subscriptions. As long as Puppet Master stays free i don't see a reason it shouldn't be able to be played without game pass.
I've played the game for a long time whenever a new update comes out, but seeing it on a hiatus feels saddening, but at least the devs are hoping to bring the game back into the light for console players to bring in a bigger mass for the game.
Also, a Kickstarter for the game is kind of a weird idea, but I don't see a massive negative to it, I'd gladly support the game through a Kickstarter for future updates to further the development, since I am a big fan of both the game and the entire film series.
Thank you, SCP Man! We really appreciate your support. We're taking a short break for the rest of the year, but we're gearing up for an exciting Kickstarter next year. Our goal is to take the time to really focus on refining the most important elements of the game, rather than just adding more content like maps and characters right away.
That said, we’ll still be working hard on the game, but we’ll be prioritizing features listed in our statement to make sure they’re solid before diving into new content. Once those are in place, we’ll be able to properly assess what new content to add.
And here’s some good news, if our Kickstarter is funded, PC players will start receiving updates as they’re completed, so there’s definitely still lots to look forward to!
If you have any questions or concerns about the Kickstarter, feel free to reach out. We’re always happy to chat!
you already have a point currency system in your game so why not tie that to the events, when doing stuff like this you need to be careful to both serve the needs of this very niche community while at the same time get some type of income so you can continue to keep things ruining.
i would look in to how other games in your particular situation has handle it that were successful such as Path of Exile, but their systems are far more grand and complicated then akin to a Dead by Daylight , but looking at how their Free to play title is still ruining well off the Supporter packs might be a time worth investigating , to address getting more people to get in to the game is more about marketing and how you'll have to figure out a way to pin this game edge on to the new crowd of people who sadly never heard of this IP.
i suggest think about it as if your trying to pitch it as a new concept to the masses. your great spots as well is Halloween , so make sure to utilize that,
Keep up the great work you are doing, as a fan of the saga since I can remember I am really grateful for the work you do and I know that all Puppet Master fans feel the same way.
