The art was what caught my interest and then it said Mothman in the title and I was hooked. Gameplay is decent. You know it's a visual novel, so there's limited interaction, but you do get to make choices albeit mostly for flavour instead of outcome and there are a few puzzlelike minigames, so there is enough variety.

Story isn't as B-movie as the, well, marketing suggests, because I thought the texts and characters were pretty well written and interesting. Wasn't too happy about what they did with the Mothman and the overall horror aspects, but it was okay and had an eerie vibe paired with more action than I expected. (To be precise, the Mothman comes across as just some monster, even though the writers do try to link it to some greater lore or mystery, but that aspect of it isn't explored enough to have an impact.)

While I did like this visual novel, I also thought it was too short and the ending felt abrupt. While it tries to leave you with ominosity, I honestly didn't think it was interesting and disappointed after the otherwise good story.

Still, it is nice gaming has room for weird little titles like this. Try it, if you have two hours to spare. If you think it looks interesting, you will probably like it.

I really enjoyed this game, but it ended up feeling very short. It's a VN but with a lot of retro-game vibes. The graphics are great and I really loved the art style. The music and sounds were also really good. The story was nice and I liked the whole twist on Mothmen with all the other additions that was thrown in. The ending was very good but it felt like a cliffhanger and made me want more. I loved that the game offers different deaths. I really appreciated the solitaire minigame. I haven't heard of a solitaire using "betting" to play, which made the usual tripeaks/pyramid solitaire a bit more interesting.

I didn't experience any bugs while playing the game. I also didn't notice many grammar issues while playing the game, though the more obvious one was in the brain teaser. It is nice that the menu offers the ability to play the solitaire game once you unlock it. However, when you exit to the game, it goes right into the point after the solitaire in the storyline. I'm not sure if it's on purpose, but it would be nice if it would go back to the menu instead.

Overall, I really loved the story. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who loves spooky or sci-fi/cryptid related stories. Just be aware that it is short, though I do believe the art and story make up for the price tag.

I came for the art style and stayed for the story. It reminded me of when I was a kid playing on an Amstrad CPC 464 because of the artistic choices and the UI.

I appreciated that despite the possibility of death, you do not have to start the whole game over, just the part where you made the wrong choice.

Oh, and I played it on Linux, using Proton. It worked perfectly.

An incredible art style with an interesting concept, this game/vn features 2 very annoying things that make it almost not worth playing.

1. Being able to accidentally go to the main menu from the death screen and wiping out all your progress from your last save point. I understand implementing an auto-save feature might be a big ask, but like maybe just save whenever the player enters one of the possible death scenarios first? Having to fast forward through dialogue to get back to where I was, is mostly just annoying but still.

2. The instant death mechanic based on failing a scenario is incredibly annoying. Some of these situations, the solution presents it's self rather naturally, but there's been a couple where I feel like I'm just banging my head against a wall until some new prompt appears. For a game of this style, it feels weirdly cruel and unusual.

The characters are kind of all over the place, and sometimes the dialogue comes across as unnecessary exposition. The story goes off the rails at the end in way that betrays the first half of game. It's ultimately not worth the 2 or so hour experience tbh.

Mothmen 1966 is an interactive tale with great pixel art & a cool story.

Pros:
+ Pixel art is superb. Some crazy good dithering technique here.
+ Story is well written. Although tone of it relies heavily on aphorisms, general characterizations, pacing and that 80s half 'twilight zone' half 'weird sci-fi tale' vibe is brilliant. Never bores and constantly throws something surprising from start to finish.
+ Price is spot on for the content. (Took me 2 hours to finish, just mind that i savored pixel art of it for a long time while playing).
+ Even they are few, there were puzzles to let you feel playing a game, unlike any other generic visual novel out there.

Cons:
- Even the sound design is in sync with the general design. Some sound loops in particular scenes distracts the atmosphere and reading. It would be better to throw some SID tunes or alike in it.

FINAL:
A great execution to mesh a well written story and pixel art into an interactive story. Loved the system and design they achieved here and will be on watch for more stories from the devs.

If you're an art enthusiast and a fan of unique games, this is for you! Amazing chilling lore and story, cool dithering-style for the larger illustrations, atmospheric soundtracks and fitting sound effects, and even got solitaire to kill your time. Absolutely worth your money and a few hours of your time to admire all this.

This is a negative review with a couple of caveats: the concept and style are great, there are some terrific visuals, and I hope to see a lot more from this studio. Positives aside, the execution of ideas is sloppy. Clunky puzzles, questionable audio, and a rushed ending that almost upends the entire story. I didn't hate it, but I feel like they can do so much better.

Really cool short story about cryptid sightings. Although I will not stand with anti-Mothmen propaganda, this one was pretty good
