Chibi faces in choices?

I've noticed that some choices have a pic of a chibi character (or multiple characters). Does anyone know if that means anything? I haven't seen anything like that in any other VN. In particular I don't understand if I'm meant to interpret something from, say, a choice where the protagonist has a neutral face and a choice where he has an angry face, especially when the choices themselves are basically the same (although the "nice" face choice is less blunt/more gentle).

So yeah, do these images mean something and are meant to help guide choices, or is it just a weird art choice?
