So the task was to build any walls, wooden floor, build a bed, staircase. Needing the staircase and being that his building was single floored, I built an entire 1st floor, walled, it, roofed it, built the staircase to it and put the bed there ... but the task wouldn't complete even though I had done everything it asked ... so on a hunch I moved the bed downstairs and the task was completed!!! So why asked for a f**king staircase, floor and walls when the building already had all those and all I had to do was put a bed in to finish?!

Oh i have Problems with this quest too and quit playing atm after trying it bad for a Hour?

This Realy did the thing. So Ignoring the Quest Text where lars sayd he want a bed far away above is the solution? Must try that thx btw how you get the Resources for the Bed? I can only Build a normal bed the cheap one. I have the Recipe but dont all Resources.

Well, a year on, this is STILL buggy as hell. I've pulled his building apart so many times!

It either sees the stairs OR the bed, but not both.

I tried making the room much bigger - like 9 squares
I tried the bed upstairs and down
I tried moving the stairs around- which is a job in itself as a) it won't go in more places and b) to can't move the counter!

Finally - after a lot of tried and error and exit and restarting I got it to work by making the stairs lead up to an empty 4 square bedroom - with the bed beside the counter on the ground floor (as OP suggested) - and something Ii'd tried several times in the past anyway.

This needs fixing!

I just put a bed in his first room and completed it.

yeah the stairs placement only counts on the floor they been placed on. So bed and Stairs have to be on the same floor ( WHAT!! WHY! That doesn't make sense). Well that is the work around with the games detection placement of items. They don't count per room/building or wtv. Its Per Floor.

Really? I think for this one, I put the stairs on the main floor, then made an upstairs with the bed. I'd have to go back and check, but ya this one was not clear. One thing to note that they did do is that the 'room' that you are placing the items in has to have green boarders all around it. If not, the room itself is not correct. This has helped me finish a few of the room quests that were unclear.

Yes, that with the greend and red borders i recognized so late in the game.
The Game Realy needs a better tutorial.
