Star sector, and this game.
Why would I play THIS instead of star sector, a game that this was clearly inspired by, but star sector has over a decade of mod support and development time, and is clearly taken care of by their devs like the most precious thing on earth, WHY does this game exist? Give me a good reason and i'll check it out

EDIT: I swear to god if this is a cash grab just because of the fact that the star sector devs don't advertise or have it on the steam store, I almost want to hate this, I grew up watching star sector develop, i've been following it since 2011 or so, if this game tries to take credit for such a gorgeous experience that's probably better I'm genuinely livid.

They're fairly different games. Star Sector is more "big picture".

This is just a single ship, and more about exploration, whereas Star Sector is building up an armada and empire-building.

You talk about Star Sector like it's the only game that's even remotely close to this, whereas this is closer to (though still not the same as) things like Escape Velocity, Endless Sky, Transcendence, Star Valor, Gaia Beyond, and others I've seen/played over the years whose names I've forgotten.

Nobody owes you "a good reason", especially considering how antagonistic/combative your attitude is.

If you're interested, maybe check out some youtube videos.

If you're not, go play Star Sector.
There's been top down space shooting games since Asteroids.

SPAZ came out in 2011.

They should really put it on Steam.

I could be miffed but am not going to because things are good enough that we can all choose which games we like, and there's enough for everyone and all tastes. Thanks, developers :)

If anything Starsector would have been inspired by Starcom, since the first game in this series released two years before Star sector had it's alpha, nevermind they play completely differently from what I have heard

I defend to the end my favorite project, you must understand yes? I am a HUGE fan of star sector and it's grown right beside me, combative or not you've made good points and what I'm getting at is that taking a concept and not even mentioning a bit of where you inspired from is a bit out of left field for me and thus makes me feel cautious about this one particular project, coming from experience. Yes I am interested and this is why I've made my first community post ever as far as i remember. Nobody but the people who sell the game owe me a good reason to buy it, to be honest.

I couldn't be happier IF this game is a different experience, all in all i'd prefer that, but the art, what is shown on the steam page if anybody familiar with star sector see's it WILL be what they expect, therefore posts like these I imagine are common.

Good to see that it isn't entirely what I thought it was, just another rip off from games outside of steam, this one would particularly make me upset because I have a connection with star sector, I've bought the game 4 times over the years due to xsolla being ass, and yet I don't regret it. If you guys say so, then I will give it a shot, hopefully it IS different enough for me to spend hours on and not be bothered by the antics.

As Spectr mentioned above, the "Starcom franchise" is really old, and potentially predates Star Sector. The first Starcom was a flash game in 2009, I believe? I didn't play it and don't really know anything about it, but just going by the dev's website[wx3.com]. I'm not sure when Star Sector started, but Starcom's certainly from before 2011.

My introduction to the genre was the Escape Velocity[en.wikipedia.org] series, in the late 90s.

I don't know where the dev's inspiration came from, but this is an old genre, with plenty of games in it to be inspired from.

Is every game ever made supposed to list every game the devs were inspired by?

Don't get me wrong, I bought Star Sector, love it, it's an amazing game. I'm not knocking it in any way.

I'm just saying that just because this is a top-down space game, that doesn't mean it's a rip-off of Star Sector.

Nothing to be mad about, if you feel that way I can't help you. I would've been if it was an actual rip off, but it's not as we established already.

And that's that honestly, all I wanted to know was this, and yes it's not like they have to, but usually they do list spiritual successors when it's heavily inspired. I hope you have a good one, thanks for the info and everything you've provided, I'll be getting my thoughts on the game soon once I obtain.

Star Sector and this are completely different. Don't know what you are rambling about.
