This is just a single ship, and more about exploration, whereas Star Sector is building up an armada and empire-building.
You talk about Star Sector like it's the only game that's even remotely close to this, whereas this is closer to (though still not the same as) things like Escape Velocity, Endless Sky, Transcendence, Star Valor, Gaia Beyond, and others I've seen/played over the years whose names I've forgotten.
Nobody owes you "a good reason", especially considering how antagonistic/combative your attitude is.
If you're interested, maybe check out some youtube videos.
If you're not, go play Star Sector.
SPAZ came out in 2011.
They should really put it on Steam.
I could be miffed but am not going to because things are good enough that we can all choose which games we like, and there's enough for everyone and all tastes. Thanks, developers :)
I couldn't be happier IF this game is a different experience, all in all i'd prefer that, but the art, what is shown on the steam page if anybody familiar with star sector see's it WILL be what they expect, therefore posts like these I imagine are common.
Good to see that it isn't entirely what I thought it was, just another rip off from games outside of steam, this one would particularly make me upset because I have a connection with star sector, I've bought the game 4 times over the years due to xsolla being ass, and yet I don't regret it. If you guys say so, then I will give it a shot, hopefully it IS different enough for me to spend hours on and not be bothered by the antics.
As Spectr mentioned above, the "Starcom franchise" is really old, and potentially predates Star Sector. The first Starcom was a flash game in 2009, I believe? I didn't play it and don't really know anything about it, but just going by the dev's website[wx3.com]. I'm not sure when Star Sector started, but Starcom's certainly from before 2011.
My introduction to the genre was the Escape Velocity[en.wikipedia.org] series, in the late 90s.
I don't know where the dev's inspiration came from, but this is an old genre, with plenty of games in it to be inspired from.
Is every game ever made supposed to list every game the devs were inspired by?
Don't get me wrong, I bought Star Sector, love it, it's an amazing game. I'm not knocking it in any way.
I'm just saying that just because this is a top-down space game, that doesn't mean it's a rip-off of Star Sector.
I have this game that I really like and someone else is making a game just a little bit similar to mine... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO ANGRY ANGRY MAD MAD.
Get a life kiddo... it's just a game
Nothing to be mad about, if you feel that way I can't help you. I would've been if it was an actual rip off, but it's not as we established already.
And that's that honestly, all I wanted to know was this, and yes it's not like they have to, but usually they do list spiritual successors when it's heavily inspired. I hope you have a good one, thanks for the info and everything you've provided, I'll be getting my thoughts on the game soon once I obtain.
Hope you enjoy it!
