Is this somehow similar to Star Control 2?

Will purchase as soon as I can.

I knew the crew system felt familiar! Starflight was awesome.

Another game to compare to if people are wondering: Combat is like SPAZ, but with more customization for the ships.
Someone read my mind, was thinking the same thing earlier and trying to figure it out. Then someone goes and asks the same question I was thinking. I will be doing the same, I loved Starflight (and Star Control 2 for that matter).
In some ways better than SC2, other ways is worse. The gameplay and UI are an improvement, especially due to the quest log and mapping. However, there are no voice overs, which did much in Ur-Quan to give SC2 a strong personality. The music is also less distinct.

Hopefully a Starcom 3 would improve on that front.
I remember playing SC2 in the 90's. Thought it was the best game ever. And in a way, still do sortof but the remake recently released left alot to wish for (it was woked down to a kids game).

I dont really fancy the 2d arcade battles though, its just tedious. Wish the game has good ai modules that could handle it for you in a enough good way that it acually doesnt matter if you fly on ai or not. Speaking of SC2 ofcourse.

I wait for the next Free Star Alliance game - the sequel to Ur-Quan Masters - and I love both Starcom games.
Worth their money! And I loved Starflight back then too. It is closer to Starflight from the more scientific game feeling... though the combat is (for me) similarly funny as it was in Star Control 2.
And I really like the self-design of ships.... apart from make them efficient... I liked to give them forms reminiscient to famous ships in sci-fi-series - I built me a 2D-Battlestar.
