Missile tech does nothing am I missing something

unlocked all the missile tech including the swarm missile tech which should make it to split in three and the evasion tech which should make it snake as it travels to make it harder to hit but none of it is getting applied to my missiles. I am using the missile mk.1 weapon am I missing something?

You have to go to the "Ship Systems" tab, and it's a small drop-down in the missile stats section.

Hit "Z" if you're not in a base to bring up the menus, and the "Ship Systems" tab is on the far right.

I think there's a tooltip or dialogue or something saying it's there, but it's easy to miss, and does seem like an odd place to put that setting.


Edit:
I'm not sure if the damage listed for the swarm missiles is per-individual_warhead, or per "shot" though. Probably swarms do less total damage than regular, as a trade-off since they track so much better, but I'm not sure.
