Questions about planet survey events/RNG
I enjoyed Starcom: Nexus very extensively, so the change in the way planetary survey events is handled is hard to ignore. RNG tends to make these kinds of interactions unnecessarily unpleasant.

Three questions about planetary survey events become pertinent:

1 - Is there a setting to change to a fixed crew competence threshold requirement instead?
2 - How necessary is it to consistently succeed at these survey challenges for progress through the plot?
3 - Are they woke?

Thank you in advance for your helpful responses.

If you're concerned over narratives being informed and socially aware to struggle/injustice then maybe you should avoid a genre known for tackling those issues in the first place.

There are many ways to achieve this goal, some more interesting and entertaining and thought provoking than ... others.
