Starsector is more Nexus: Jupiter Incident with more focus on firing arcs and has hardpoints for attaching weapons and utilities. More "realistic" ship to fighting. You do not build your ship, you pick your weapons--how you get them and have access varies between games. Starsector also is or can be more fleet managment/fighting and Starcom is just you and your single ship (and occasional allies!) against the Stars and their inhabitants.
Starcom is more SPAZ, in that it's more arcade-y stylistic fighting, Still Good though.
The closest similar, but not the same, game to the ship building mechanic is Stardrive. Here is hex based and you build the entire ship. Stardrive is a hull with a given layout and amount of building tiles--I can lose so many hours just designing ships there lol.
Both Starsector and Starcom feature a fair bit of exploration, or at least you can play that way lol. Starcom features that much more especially with the puzzles and scenarios you can engage with. I think both are a great time, but for different kinds of playing
