I actually enjoy all three games (FTL, Nexus, Unknown Space) but this isn't quite in the genre of 'pixel-based' top-down space combat.
Have a look at the gameplay videos linked on the store page & see if the play style and graphics appeal to you. I will say that the system requirements for Starcom are a lot heavier than for FTL.
If you're unsure about whether you want to go in for the release price of Unknown Space between now and ... say, October, based on what you've seen, you can give Nexus a whirl :)
Less frustrating yes (for me the frustration in FTL is in the random unpredictable outcomes and meaningless choices, mandatory deaths to unlock meta-progression, etc. Starcom has none of that).
No roguelike/rougelite, yes. I'd argue that FTL isnt "like rogue" in any discernible way, but I get what you mean and this game isn't like that. No short deadly runs with meta-progression unlocks.
Otherwise like FTL at all? Not really. It is in space, yes. Combat is more like Escape Velocity, top down real time action. You fly your ship, unlike FTL where you just tell it where to warp to. No crew management, unlike FTL. Yes, you have a crew and you have to think about casualties and morale or whatever, but no they don't run around the internals of your ship crewing stations and getting blown out airlocks.
