For reference, I spent probably 8 hours flying around dead space yesterday trying to find a thumper to challenge. I was feeling pretty hopeless. I actually didn't even connect that these two issues were related.
I request of Kevin: Give some crew guidance after a certain amount of time with both the log entries with the hints and the tower discovered that gives a wrong code. After attempting give another span of time where the crewman hints again. If you still can't get it after that, give a longer time then the correct answer. This was painful. At least having some input to imply I'm on the correct course would have given me a light at the end of the tunnel.
Sorry you ran into trouble with the undocumented Watchtower mission(s). This was a bit of a headscratcher for me too.
The sequence you're supposed to divine out is a list of entries in one of the encounters. I've added some math to make it clearer:
010111 = 16 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 23 - Endless Arch
011000 == 24 (Deleted entry)
011001 == 25 (Deleted entry)
011010 == 26 (Deleted entry)
011011 == 27 - Broken God
(Data corrupted) - New Reliquary
011101 == 29 - Dead Star
011110 == 30 (Deleted entry)
011111 == 31 - Dying home
The "New Reliquary" entry is just between 27 and 29, if you convert those binary numbers to decimal.
Interpolating the missing entry as "28" and converting back to binary, you get 011100 (which is what you found by trial and error).
I checked the game files -- there are no destinations outside of entries 23, 27, 28, 29, and 31 (For Kepler 17311, at any rate. Sorry.). I tried those by trial-and-error as well, before I checked. The reason that this had me stymied, weeks ago, was that there *should've* been a result for #29, and wasn't. After I checked the game files, I understood -- it's a minor bug. That'll get fixed in the 1.0 release, I'm sure. Unfortunately, the actual result for destination 29 is underwhelming -- it's right near the Void Stalkers / Collapsar nebula, a place you've probably already been, based on the "Flight Recorder" mission hint
Try -39.7 x -37.6 for the Watchtower
and try 21.8 x 0.5 for the blue polyhedron
Search in your log for "Yet another old Arkadian Settlement" it will show you a "map" for a hidden system!
You need to fly to the nearest star at 38.5 x 15.7 and the Stalkers will appear
It's just the binary number that's next in sequence after Dead God, they increase by 1
all that i find there are guild members. nothing else
