Starsector is a great game to try out, but Starcom is great too!
There's some discourse here and I think it was my fault for suggesting people check out a game before it's released. I'd love for starsector to get more attention as it absolutely deserves it, but Starcom is absolutely worthwhile!

I saw this game (Starcom: Unknown Space) on Steam and I am like: oh oh, this will get a very big problem. I don't know. Is this game inspired by Starsector or it's a copy?

Almost a year went by that starsector did not receive any patching. Very rare for Alex to be like this.

I love Starsector, but Starcom is a more fun game from the exploration standpoint. Tons of unique handcrafted events among hundreds of planets make Starcom stand out.

If only Starsector is on Steam.

Actually Starcom Nexus fits this description even better

Possibly unpopular opinion: I found Star Sector boring. I hate the combat map, it's too busy and too much work, and I found the rest of the game dull. I haven't picked up US yet, but I did play a lot of the closed beta, and played Nexus a great deal over the years, and both are substantially better than Star Sector, in my opinion.
Starsector totally different game IMO i have 100+ hrs in SS :steamsalty::2016watermelon:

First don't discount Starcom, the 1st game Starcom Nexus was really well done, and this one is looking good based on the little bit I've played, instead of huge fleets M&B style, it's 1 ship that you can customize the heck out of.

also if you're looking for something in between Star Sector and this that is on Steam, checkout Star Valor

That's pretty standard for Alex lately. But his patches are more along the lines of expansion packs.
Plus the long times between patches allows the modding community to thrive and grow. And Alex hasn't been silent at all. He posts regularly on his Twitter and does blog posts detailing what is to come in the next patch. And he is always answering questions on the forum as well. The game ain't abandonware by any means

I'm curious as to why you hated combat. And also what version you played as well.

I dont understand why pple love Star sector so much...other than combat its pretty much a mount n blade clone in space... But when u think of it, every game is a clone of the past?!

I think people like Starsector a lot, were people that just finished SPAZ 1 back in the day, and were dismayed at SPAZ 2 and went hunting for a top-down space shooter game and found it. That is how I found out about Starsector.

is there any game like Starsector but actually on steam ?

You guys are kinda comparing apples and oranges here. The games set out to do completely different things. You want to build your own entire fleet and personal empire that's cornered the fuel and heavy machinery market? Play Starsector. You want more personalized stories and events that are spread across a lot of exploration and uncovering mysteries? Starcom.

Mind you, I've played and like both of them—for completely different reasons.

is it weird that I find it rude for people to advertise other games in someone elses game discussion board? It's like your hanging out at burger king and telling everyone to go eat at wendy's.
