FROM WHAT I CAN TELL: The "monster" of the game is Eleanor, who was abducted at a young age. Regardless of her origins and her disappearance, she spends the duration of a train ride attempting to abduct 9 children with assorted hobbies: the two playable characters, a fisher, twins, a painter, a girl with a dog, an audiophile, and Benny, who uh, likes theater?
In the Good Ending, all but the two playable characters were abducted, leaving them to attempt to escape the grasp of Eleanor. As they make their escape, they are cornered, however, the spirits of all 7 dead children tear Eleanor limb from limb, allowing them to leave the subway.
The Best Ending places the focus on Eleanor herself: the skull ghost, when mask is removed, is shown to be a young Eleanor, matching the picture found on her "Have you seen me?" poster. Thus, when being scared away from abducting the children in the first place, Eleanor is confronted by her younger, more innocent conscience. She empathizes, realizes the wrong she is about to commit, and ultimately passes by the final two potential victims. As Eleanor leaves the subway, she makes peace with her past, and exits the setting for the game.
Bad end Eleanor kills all the kids. Good end the 2 player characters survive and the 7 dead kids kill Eleanor.
True end is where things get tricky. Based on what I can tell, Eleanor and her sister Jacklyn went missing on the train, based on some of the last missing posters. Jacklyn died on the train while Eleanor began living on the train. Jacklyn is the skull ghost following Eleanor, and Eleanor is scared off from each of the kids, resulting in all of them surviving. I guess Eleanor became a murderer due to her past, and was only able to stop by seeing her sister. I don't think there's enough material to figure out anything else besides that.
