Resident Evil 1 (1996) - map is basically one of the first items you get
Silent Hill 1 (1999) - had a dynamic map, where character marked closed doors etc.
Only "Alone in the dark" (1992) didn't have a map

maybe you should do some homework

Why are you acting like old school survival horror games didn't have maps?

Hello!, we do not have plans for adding a map.

In later bigger levels we have in-game maps, you go to X places interact with the maps and you get a close up of it with the usual indicator of "You are here".

But there is not a map button.

That’s such a bummer

Just played through the mute house, for some reason no map and it’s just purely a negative, I see no reason to not have a map in this genre

There should be a map of the areas but not straight away. Something like as you progress you find a blue print of an area of the subway or maybe a diagram on the wall showing you part of the subeway area you are in then it becomes part of the UI which you can accsess at anytime.

Yes 1000%. Just something that you can get at some point. I don’t understand why survival horror devs keep skipping this crucial part

While a map is a good thing to have, it doesn't always necessary. I grew up playing these types of games back in the day (the OG RE series, Silent Hill series, Alone in the Dark etc.), and played the remakes as well. The map helps indeed, but after playing just a couple of hours, backtracking and so on, the layout of the different areas will eventually burn into your brain / memory. I'm nearly 39, but can still remember the full R.P.D layout by heart to this day from the OG RE2 game (and that was back in 1998), and the same goes for the Remakes as well. So I understand the argument here, but after a couple of hours playing, one won't miss the map at all. I know of course that most of these games have / had maps, but personally after playing for a while, I haven't really used it, or not used it at all.

Not all of us have a photographic memory. It’s literally an accessibility thing. Trust me I’ve played almost every classic and modern survival horror game, and I do not share your experience.

True in that sense. If there's an option for a map then why not have it. Not having an always accessible map hopefully won't mess up the full release, as we don't know yet how big the other areas will be. Personally when it comes to maps I'm not a big fan of this option which the developer stated "In later bigger levels we have in-game maps, you go to X places interact with the maps and you get a close up of it with the usual indicator of "You are here"." So either add a map or don't. Maybe this method will be useful as well, but you'll always have to run back to a fixed place / spot to be able to check the map, which can be frustrating sometimes. Or just simply make a screenshot of the different maps ^^'', but ofc that still won't replace the real thing.
