ZPS 3.1 Map Update Thread
Hello everyone,

Based on map information/feedback from the Sad to see all the broken custom maps thread, a number of maps were listed that needed updates. I decided to make a separate thread for updates regarding those maps that will be updated every so often. So far, the following maps have been fixed (Updated on March 21th, 2022):


Each of the above have a dropbox link so that they can be downloaded individually. These files have been compressed into .zip files so its easier to download/move them. Users should unzip them and put them in their map directories while server owners should do what they normally do with them. Also, here is the Map Changelog[www.dropbox.com] for those curious as to what changed. This only applies to maps I've updated myself and not those updated by others.

As for the other maps, here is an update to those:

Maps Being Worked On/looked at:
  • zpo_lasthope_v1a - As posted in the last thread, this map needs a serious rework in a lot of ways. Will be some time before this gets updated since there is a lot to tackle in this map.
  • zpo_deepfloor_2k12_v5 - Still needs to be updated.

Maps Awaiting Response/Author Action (assumes the authors are still active/informed):
  • zpo_bloody_winter_v2 - NaVy is the author, its on the workshop, a comment was made on map page regarding the issues with map and is awaiting response.
  • zpo_lost_cemetery_a1 - This is Wickk's map and they are working on an update for it.

Maps NOT Getting Updated:
  • zpo_outcasts_v6 - Map is pretty much broken beyond repair due to reliance on NPCs/AI that is no longer present in ZPS 3.1, so many traps/objectives/features in the map do not work. An update is not very likely for this map at this time (or possibly ever unless heavily reworked).

If other maps are desired, feel free to post them in the thread. I can't promise I will work on them (I will if I have time), but perhaps others who are still around that do this kind of thing will be willing to take a look at it and update them as well.

Credits attributing authors were put into every map. However, there is a very long list of maps here that simply do not have original download links or information about their authors (whether they were original authors, port/update authors, etc.) which is very unfortunate in regards to giving proper credit to people who worked on these maps. If someone knows the authors or the people who updated the maps prior to myself and I missed giving them proper credit, please let me know. Also, if you happen to be the author of one of these maps, please let me know so that I can either give credit and/or hand over the .vmf files to you, if you wish for them.

As far as error spam in console, I have reduced as much as I can and fixed whatever was I could fix if I caught it. However, the async issues with sounds are pretty much found on every map so far and have been around for a long while. I believe these can be ignored since I see them appear for sounds in every map, most of which are working (I think its more of a notice than an error since its saying its clamping sounds). That said, if there are specific errors or problems that you find in console that concern you, go ahead and list them and I'll see if I can fix them in the next update.

Aside from fixing some of the more obvious problems (missing textures, non-working ladders, etc.), I made sure to set prop_physics models to unbreakable where necessary and added barricade boards + hammers to the map based on what was previously available (so if a map had 12 barricade hammers, I would place twelve barricade boards with one hammer weapon every 2-3 barricade boards, based on location in the map). Finally, I attempted to fix up a few maps by adding some optimization to the map or cleaning up brush work, or messing with entity count where applicable. Most of the maps sort of needed it, so I hope they perform better.

I did do some testing of the maps, but I'm sure there might be things I did not catch. If there is anything wrong with the maps, please let me know. Also, I shall update this thread with links to the maps fixed until all of the ones listed are updated. If there are any questions/concerns, feel free to post those as well.

Sounds good, thanks! :) zpo_rubix_cube is a small map and works well enough already in 3.1 so it would probably be fairly simple to update.

Ratboy updated zpo_blackbird for 3.0, I think that's zpo_blackbird_v4. I recall Reborn talking on the ZPS Discord a few months ago about some balance issues where people tend to camp on the roof and around a particular ladder, might be worth considering - maybe adding one or two zombie spawns in that area like in the parking garage or in the vents on the roof or something.

After doing a double-check, blackbird was already updated to ZPS 3.1 by Ratboy and is on the workshop, so I won't need to update that map. Since he seems to be active, you might want to leave that bit of feedback on his workshop page.

So, in place of blackbird, I'll look at rubix cube instead.

All of these maps were updated in 3.0/3.1 and work fine in 3.1

But "zpo_lickerfactory" has a leaky texture problem inside the armory-room
(the counter on the other side of the room).

It could use the ability to have players die if they don't get out of the armory
(just like how you die if you don't move out of spawn on Redqueen).

Lickerfactory has a bad design where survivors can hang back (and not leave the armory).
And then the gate will close, and no one can get them.

Maybe it can have a kill-trigger behind that gate? (just like on zpo_redqueen).

The main music (and the Redqueen-room) on the map has a fairly low volume level,
not sure if this can be adjusted.

I should also mention that zpo_lickerfactory has an invisible ladder at the part where you are supposed to 'jump' down an elevator shaft, people do jump because the ladder that is there is invisible.

This won't matter, because owners of the servers and players who already downloaded the map will not delete it from their computers. What has been archived is archived for good. Nobody cancelled private sharing either :D

I'm glad you enjoyed my map yeflynne.

I doubt all servers owners will respect my wish, so you may be able to enjoy darkcult at the very least until the next ZPS update. I can't stand the stereotypes this game spreads (although progress has been made in that regard) and the blatant racism of this community.
