v3.1 Public Playtesting is now available!
We've opened our public beta testing for Zombie Panic! Source. Opting in to the beta branch will make your game receive the latest features before they're released to the public.

Opting in to the Beta
  • Right click on "Zombie Panic! Source".
  • Select "Properties".
  • Select "Betas" tab.
  • Click "NONE" and select the unstable build.
Steam will automatically switch your game to the unstable version, updating to the latest changes being worked on during v3.1's development. Check the full changelog list here.

To opt out, simply select NONE in the Betas tab to roll back the changes.

Reporting an Issue
When experiencing a game bug or crash, create a thread with a tag [BUG] or [CRASH] in our Public Beta 3.1 sub-forum including:
  • detailed description of the bug/crash with a screenshot or video
  • what you were doing, where, which server and so on
  • your PC specs (OS, processor, video card etc)
  • your crash .dmp file (located in your Steam/dump folder).
Be sure to check the forums if the issue has already been reported or not before creating a new discussion. It's very important to send your .dmp file if your game crashed. Find out more reading this thread on how to find and send them to us.

Providing Feedback
We're highly in need of community feedback during our public playtesting to assure everything is in place and balanced. Do not hesitate to voice your concerns, what could be tweaked, improved or scrapped from our upcoming build.

To do so, create a new thread with the tag [SUGGESTION] in our Public Beta 3.1 sub-forum with detailed information describing your idea to us and the rest of the community.

Linux Users
The Linux client support is our highest priority in this upcoming build. Our goal is to identify every possible Linux issue and fix them up as much as we can before the actual v3.1 public release. If you would like to help us test the Linux client build, please check on this thread for further information.

Public Beta Q.A
Q: What files should I backup before opting in to the beta?
A: You should back up your most important and modified client configs in your ZPS folder. For example: autoconfig.cfg, config.cfg and any other files you have modified.

Q: What are the changes and differences between 3.0.9a and 3.1?
A: You can check the full list of changes in our Beta Changelog thread.

Q: Can I join servers running 3.0.9a version?
A: No. Once opting in to the beta, your binaries will be completely different from the public version. You also cannot join servers running an outdated version of the beta if your client received an update recently. Be sure to search for servers running the latest 3.1 changes.

Q: What should I do if my game doesn't start when opting in to the beta?
A: If your game is crashing constantly when running the beta, be sure to report it in our Public Beta 3.1 sub-forum including your .dmp file - which you can find it at your Steam/dump folder. Don't forget to tell us your PC specs in the report.

Q: I cannot see my suggestion/idea in this beta. What happened?
A: Sorry! Don't expect all suggestions to be implemented into the 3.1 beta right away. But in any case, don't hesitate to give us a heads up in our Public Beta 3.1 sub-forum informing us to address the suggestion in future patches. We will take it into consideration depending on what you suggest to us.

Q: How do I create a server to test it with my friends?
A: You can freely host your own listen server by clicking on "Create Server" in the main menu. Check out how to set up your own server properly in this thread. For server owners using steamcmd, be sure to address the following code line:
app_update 17505 -beta unstable

Q: When are you guys going to release v3.1 officially?
A: Sadly, no ETA for official public release. Our main focus is to fix up all client crashes and bugs, address every balance issue, do the final polishing and check if we're not missing anything important. As soon as all of that is done, we will be ready to ship the 3.1 build out of its beta state!

Q: Where can I chat directly with you guys?´
A: We've our own official and verified Discord server. Join us![discord.gg]

We appreciate all the support we can get from this public playtesting.

Happy testing!

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask them here or by creating a new thread.

I'm testing it on Ubuntu 18.10, but it seems I can't connect to any beta server.

A message says I am in insecure mode? It tells me I have to restart (although the full message is cut off). I assume there's an issue there, possibly with VAC perhaps not working correctly?

Additionally, when testing out a local server from the menu, I couldn't bring up the in-game menu the first time as it did this:
I did a new one and then it did work, odd.

You have to be more specific. We can't help you if you don't provide more details.
