Last I checked approximately 40 minutes ago, there were over 40 players online in 3 out of 26~ servers. I say ~26 servers because I just put about 9 servers online in 3 or 4 locations and I'm trying for more, but ZPS is giving me a very stubborn segmentation issue on Ubuntu 20.04 that either works or it doesn't.

You can use SteamDB Charts (google "steamdb zps charts") and see the active player count as well as the history of the game and other games when they were first released.

To add on, i imagine some people don't want to play the game in the current state, smearing the good memories of back then, as stated in a discussion from august 2023.

I've been watching people asking the same question since 2012 every year lol. ZPS will never die, sometimes at evening/night it's pretty hard to hop in a server and I gotta wait for a slot.

Basically, yeah. At least for those of us preferring the REAL version of the game, instead of some severely diluted and piss-poor forced-RPG-trash mockery of it.

I miss the days when vanilla ZPS was still a thing. Approx 100% of all the populated servers in the game these days only play with these ultra-♥♥♥♥♥♥ and woefully unbalanced perks or RPG systems, or they just have the most atrocious bloody custom maps ever designed.

TL;DR: RIP ZPS.

ZPS vanilla was king. The current iteration is just a hollow shell of its former self. I could play that game for hours upon hours (different steam account had 1k hours in it) and never get tired of it. RIP ZPS
