Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 3

Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 3

Cant handle ultra high settings?
I dont understand. My laptop is pretty decent. It can run BF3 maxed out AND online no problem. It can run starcraft 2 maxed out no problem. It can run whatever maxed out. BUT, I go to play red alert 3 and put it on ultra high and boom, it lags to the point of being unplayable. Even on high settings it lags.

Here's my specs:

Vortex Series - 17.3" Matte Full HD LED Widescreen (1920x1080)

Processor (CPU) - Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-2670QM (2.20GHz) 6MB

Memory (RAM) - 8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB)

Graphics Card - nVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 675M - 2.0GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11

Memory - 1st Hard Disk 750GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD7500BPKT, SAT

Any reason this is happening?

Thanks

The above is just trolling...

Your GPU the 675M is a rebranded 580M which was and still is a very powerful Graphics Card.
Make sure your DirectX drivers are up to date, (run this: http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=35 ) and update your graphics drivers ( http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/63462 ).
My old laptop had a Nvidia 310m (Horrible) and ran RA3 horribly, but if you right click on the desktop shortcut, go to Run with graphics processor and select High-performance NVIDIA processor performance might increase.

FYI. My computer now has a 7750 (lowest end AMD GPU) and runs RA3 fine on maxed out settings with a smooth framerate.

Hope this helps

Try running the DirectX installer ( http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download/details.aspx?id=35 ). It should fix any problems with DirectX related issues.
thanks for your response but i already tried that & it still does the same thing, someone said to change the games compatability option, but it does not give me that option, do you have any other solutions, otherwise i'm just waiting for my copy of c&c generals to arrive & pray that it works, so far c&c RA3 is the only game i've had a problem with. your help is appreciated.
do you know how to handle the windows explorer? rightclicking here in steam wont give u that option
no sorry i dont understand what you mean, im not very familar with pc stuff & gaming so i'm still learning.
in steam, right click the game in your library -> propertys (bottom-most) -> local files tab -> browse local files
then the windows explorer will open and you should be in the directory containing the .exe
there now you can right click it and set the compatibility options

Edit: since I neither own the game nor have a machine running win8 at my disposal (and have my steam not set to english, but to my native language) there might be differences in naming of the options, or the .exe might be in a subfolder (usualy "bin"), there someone with the game and win8 would need to guide you if you cant find it with the above

ok i will give that a try thanks for your help, will let you know how i go, because when the shortcut was on my desktop i right click on it go to properties but there was no compatability? so is what your saying a different way to access compatibility options?
the shortcut is just a shortcut, like a bookmark, that will execute the attached item - so you cant make a bookmark compatible to an older OS - you want to make the attached object compatible - so you have to find it and right click it
ok then, i'm gonna redownload the game & give it a try tommorrow, let you know how i go, i really want to play it with my friend, i installed c&c generals too but i gave up on trying to get that to work. its my favorite RTS but cant get it to work on my new laptop. thanks for your help
i cant see the exe one your talking about?
Right click on the game in steam, go to properties, then go to the local files tab at the top and click browse local files. An explorer window should open. Right click on ra3.exe and go to properties. Go to the compatibilty tab at the top and tick, Run this program in compatibility mode for: and change the drop down box to Windows XP (Service Pack 2). Then tick at the bottom, run this program as an administrator. Click OK to close the dialog box and then launch red alert 3 using ra3.exe and not throught steam.
most likely the option "hide known file extensions" is activated in your explorer (the stupidest "feature" ever invented by MS) - the file will appear just as "ra3". There might be multiple files with that name. The right one should be the one that got an icon that resembles sth of the game. But it wouldnt hurt to just try them all. When you right click and go to propertys, only the .exe will have the compatability tab
