Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 3

Avast Antivirus Corrupts the Launcher .exe
Title says it all. Avast keeps trying to put the .exe launcher for the game in the virus chest, especially if I try to play offline. This time it's gone and *corrupted* the file within the chest, so now I can't restore it, or delete it, and attempting to validate the file integrity doesn't seem to be working. I've seen multiple threads saying that the game tries to contact the now-defunct servers for multiplayer, and that may cause issues, but I'm not sure what to do. I'm going to try and backup my save data and uninstall/reinstall and see if that helps fix it for the time being.

Edit: After reinstalling, it now says CONTENT FILE BLOCKED on the download screen, 6.5 out of 6.5 gigabyte downloaded. Just great.

I'm not familiar with Avast, but is there an option in Avast to add a program to a white list? Or you might want to shut down Avast until the game successfully launches?
The .exe is now in my "Exceptions" list, which I think is a Whitelist. I had to do the same with Bloons Tower Defence 5 because the latest update triggered a false alarm. Maybe when Steam is offline, Red Alert still tries to contact the defunct servers and Avast thinks it's trying to pull in some kinda malware, idk... I have it working now but I'll keep my eyes out for what other circumstances can trigger a false alarm.

simple don,t install avast antivirus
I would, but given the amount of actual malware that it's cockblocked trying to sneak its way in, I find it more trustworthy than programs such as Windows Defender and McAffee. I can be looking at Google Images and it'll tell me straightaway if a picture leads to a site that will track/infect my system. And I'm only using the free trial, I'm too cheap to upgrade it :p

Yes, Avast does this sometimes and then you gotta add stuff to the exception list. Usually it will automatically add games to the list, but like you said, it is probably some anomaly with contacting defunct servers and whatnot.

Everyone knows that Avast is among the crappiest of AVs. Do not install it, or if you have, uninstall it immediately. It's going to :_F_::_U_::_C_::_K_: up your system in no time. I've lost count of the people who had their systems bricked and in alot of cases Avast was the problem. :vvvvvv_verdigris:

Trust me when I say it's better than the alternatives. My previous computer had McAfee built into it and it completely utterly r*ped anything it thought was suspicious.
