The mausoleum is horribly unfair.
Just lost so much progress because the game suddenly forces a chase sequence on you inside a copy-paste maze...
Who thought this was a good idea? I was having a lot of fun with the game until this point, but now I've completely lost interest.

Survey banners can be used to get through the maze, and recall crystals can be used to escape Death if they corner you.

If you're not worried about ruining the experience for yourself, there is a guide that has full maps of every area. Overall, I do not think you can beat Death unless you have Limbo. Just because you can get somewhere does not mean you are supposed to be there yet. You will need to backtrack multiple times.

How long does this game go between save points?

I was thinking of buying it tonight, but I won't bother if I have to dedicate hours in one sitting. I'm an adult with responsibilities, so I need to be able to drop it within a few minutes notice :(

It's not that bad, tbh. I play games quite slowly, and you can usually backtrack to a save point within a few minutes.
My only real problem with the game is this one section, which features samey corridors and then a section where the grim reaper suddenly appears if you spend too long exploring. It's such a jarring change in pace from the rest of the game.

I just found a map in the "Guides" section right here on steam and used that.

The death ambush happened to me but I managed to get away. The mausoleum is pretty maze like and confusing compared to other areas. But I found terminus to be a little more tricky and huge. I think the mausoleum is suppose to be confusing as I think it's a nod to the real life catacombs in France. People have been known to run into death down there, and by death I mean panicked induced isolation followed by starvation.

usually when you hit the next area theres a save point...
although the path to get there may not always be easily accessible or perhaps you may need to check the area very thoroughly. best bet is too look up a map for every area you feel you're unfamiliar with because there are some maps in this game that may confuse you or lead you in circles if you don't have a good sense of navigation which is further impeded with dungeon layouts that look similarly throughout that portion of the map or maybe the dungeon is pitch black/near pitch black

I would wager you'd die by dehydration first as you can only survive 3 days without water...

Terminus Prison is worse, those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ undead dogs that slow you can go to jump in a vat of acid. Worth it for the candle tho.

Mausoleum is where you gotta plan your run and yes those survey banner s help along with a timer on your phone and either spirit crystals or the spirit warp spell.
