Need a save+quit/resume feature
I'm totally fine with resetting back to a checkpoint upon dying. But needing to backtrack to a save point just to be able to close the game without losing progress is inexcusable.

Before anyone complains about it making the game easier or anything, that's NOT what I'm asking for. I just want to be able to close the game for real-life interruptions without losing progress. It should still be possible to use the in-game checkpoint state for when you die, even with quitting/resuming in between.

I was interested in the game, but with kids and stuff I need to be able to close a game at a moment's notice, so not supporting that is a dealbreaker

I totally agree. Most of the time I don't even want to start the game because if I did I wouldn't be able to leave my PC for the next hour or so.

I don't get it, save points are literally how 90% of RPGs save. It's how the original kings field saved. You plan out what you're gonna do then you save. If you got real life interruptions then quit if you have to. It's the exact same as Mario world, dk country, and super Metroid.

I happen to like save point systems because it's not just about convenience. You are basically asking for save states. RPGs are easy enough as they are, but save anywhere?

It works in old Boomer shooters. But the amount of save anywhere rpgs is low. Mostly on world maps. They do this for a reason, they want you to have a game over, not damage reload.

"Inexcusable" is a pretty bold word choice. That aside, there is a mod on Nexus for quicksaving

While I agree that a better saving system should be built-in (ideally, like it was in TESIII: Morrowind, which is not new, or even the constant auto-saving system from Dark Souls would be better), as mentioned, there is a mod ("F5 For Quicksave" on Nexus Mods) that allows to save without the crystals (the foes respawn upon loading, so caution is advised). The mod requires a third-party software to function (the mod itself should be placed into the "plugins" folder inside the software's folder), but it is quite good.
There is quick save game mod on nexus, works great. The only minor problem is that when loading a quick save the gama is high and the music is off. This however corrects itself after any load for example when you go through a loading door or even a spot where the music changes. So what I do is only quick save just before a loading point.

Not every game needs to be casualized to the point of just letting you quick save / quickload through every single encounter so you never experience failure or learn.

I completely agree, even though I probably would not use it much. There could very well be an option to switch it on. This is exactly what I would describe as an accessibility feature. I strongly appreciate that it is not how the game was meant to be played, and nonetheless will always champion added accessibility. Not everyone can always play a game 'the way it was meant to be played' on it's own terms. A little bit of trusting the audience to curate their own experience goes a long way.

why are people so freaking stupid? He's not asking for quick saves or save states!

Get used to it. King's Field never had the option, and this game is based on that. If you really can't tolerate a game that doesn't want you saving when it's convenient, then use a mod from the Nexus site.
