From what it sounds like, your next destination should be through the castle.

The area is called the Cattle Cells, and it's a vampire castle. What would vampires use "cattle" for?

Outside of certain notes maybe archives you wouldn’t know normally. Heck it looks like a key slot which every other door needed until then.

Yeah not sure why he said it's obvious. This was like the last place I ended up exploring because it was such a dumb solution. Vampires die when you shoot em in the face with blood btw. They collect the blood and spit it out to power their obtuse door locking systems, common misconception...

At least for my part, it was an inference. There is a note from Sir Garret in the Mire right before you hit the Sanguine Sea that refers to it as the castle of "the diseased one", which is pretty ambiguous, but then the gigantic sea of blood filled with crosses and the moon on the castle itself made it pretty clear (at least to me) that I was dealing with vampires.
