you can only get out with a crystal shard. there is a reason you find one along the way.
or with the new spell that basically is an infinite crystal shard. but the moonlight sword aint worth it anymore. there is simply better weapons.

Indeed you could. Only way out is with a crystal shard or by using spirit warp.

daaaang haha ok thanks, that is funny

I agree its kinda dumb, there should be a warp point there or something

There is a warp spell (dont remember where you get it, late game, I think it was the labyrinth).
Its just a bad game design choice to make people stuck and load their save and redo the entire tower again. I agree, it needs a failsafe in the end.

I'm not saying it's a bad design I just wasn't clear. I think it goes hand in hand with the nature of the games they are trying to emulate - Kings Field, etc. are very troll-y and there's a lotta ways you can just get screwed over and lose a lot of progress. I think, given that context, it's a pretty funny troll. But also a good reminder you should be very careful with your crystal shards and always have one around.

Fun fact: in KF4, in early game fortunately, there was an infamous trap: if you gave a specific item to the wrong character, you got stuck forever without the possibility to progress any more, you were forced to start a new game and discard all progress. Depending on the player, we are talking about 1-3 hours of playtime down the toilet.

Yeah Im probably spoiled af, keeping track of the shards and always have one is the right logic here.

But it IS bad design. This isn't the 90s. The game goes for the retro feel but clearly introduces QoL improvements to fix flaws that 90s games often had. Making it possible for the player to be softlocked after going through a 50 floor challenge for 30-40 minutes (or more) is NOT good design.

But you're given a crystal while descending the tower, you'll always have one unless you skipped chests which no one is going to do unless they're speedrunning or something.

I try to make sure not to run out of crystal shards, too. Just saying, it wouldn't be difficult to just give you a warp outside or something that doesn't rely on a consumable that you might miss picking up.

Hmm,. where in KF4? I know an early place where you can give an item to either of two characters, and one of the character will give you something necessary to progress. But there are two items of this kind you can get, so you give one each. Unless there was a glitch and you could give the same item twice to one of the characters. I might actually try that later.

In the version I played there was just one item of that kind, or maybe I always missed the other somehow!

You definitely missed it. There are two.
