What exactly is this game?
Hello, as someone who has played dark souls I am interested in this as it is inspired by from's other games, but what exactly is this? I don't believe i'm familiar with dungeon crawlers. Is it open world or is it more linear? Is there quests and NPCs and looting?

It's not open-world like Elden Ring, but you do have freedom to explore and backtrack like in Dark Souls. The environments are a bit more confined (so far, I'm not very far yet). There are NPCs but I haven't seen any quests yet.

So it's similar to dark souls in that it's not exactly an open world. Is there fast travelling or is it like you just have to get there on foot?

The game mostly revolves around exploring one large, mostly contiguous dungeon. It's relatively linear, in that you're ultimately trying to find a safe way to go down, but there's a few different routes and sub-areas to explore along the way. NPCs and quests are somewhat rare, but they do exist. Your exploration is mostly going to be self-guided, though.

You can warp between save points.

Save points are similar to bonfires then I would think, of a souls game.

That sounds rather intriguing. I think I'll give this game a go.

I hope you enjoy it! I've been at it since Early Access and I think this might be my favorite game this year.
there are no quests in a sence "you have a journal and a bunch of entries", but there are tasks not nesessary for progression, like getting access to certain areas, solving a puzzle and getting an item, also there's a somewhat hidden enemy gauntlet. basic gameplay is more about exploration and finding secrets, like hidden walls and stuff

Thanks, I'll see how it is. It does sound quite similar to dark souls, I've never really watched kings field gameplay tbh so I imagine it is very similar to that. Secret walls and whatnot.
well, it sure is better than king's field in at least one aspect - you don't have to hug all walls actively mashing a button, you just have to stand close and look at it to [?] icon pop in the corner to know there is a hidden wall here.
