What new player should now before starting the game?
There is an in-game manual so while you are playing you can go into your inventory and look at the manual which explains things.
Not having played games like this I think you're supposed to jump in and explore, you're not supposed to "know everything" you will experiment, learn and occasionally be surprised by stuff you didn't expect. This older save reload system is actually very accommodating, when you make a lot of progress there is pressure to be more conservative in your playstyle to not lose progress but, if you do die it's not permanent so you can reload the save and try again. Atleast for me it makes me more willing to try stuff because if I fail, waste resources, or die I can always just reload.
Haha, your explanation is great, my comprehension sucks. This game is not exactly
"intuitive" either. Just started as an intended magic user so your comment about
100 resistance is priceless, never would've known otherwise. Thank you!
