Dragon Age: Origins

What to even do in this game? Party feels too weak
Against normal enemies, sometimes it seems to go okay. 2 Ogres, fine. Some bears, okay. But then something shows up and just immediately blocks all progress. I was in the castle at Redcliffe, there are just swarms of zombies that roll my party effortlessly no matter how much I pause and give commands. So I went to the forest instead, had no problem there, then I get into the werewolf lair and suddenly I can't proceed until I beat some dragon? Dragon stuns my whole party, stuns don't work on it, freezing works 1/3 times. I have Alistair, Morrigan, mabari, Sten, and Leliana. The AI has no idea how to use rogues so I don't use Leliana, Sten seems to be made out of tissue paper even with heavy armor. I haven't recruited anyone else yet. Morrigan has heal but it restores maybe 20% of health. I feel like my party is incredibly underleveled and lacking in abilities at every turn.

what difficulty are you playing on?

Just saying but you might have made a really poor build just saying or you might never level up

You might want to get Wynne, she's actually built to be a healer. All you need to do to get her is start the mages tower area up, but you'll actually have to beat it to go anywhere else.

The Mage's Tower is my first stop, no matter what difficulty or character I play just so that I can get Wynne. Yeah, she's a bit judgemental and all, BUT she does do a great job in battles of keeping you alive.

I agree with you that the AI has no clue how to utilize rogues effectively enough for my tastes, that's why I will do everything I can to take control out of the AI's hands direct her personally.

I usually have in my party... Alistair, Morrigan, Wynne and me as a Rogue. Or... Me as a mage, Alistair, Wynne and Lelianna or Zevran. And while builds do matter, I think party members matter more.

All said, I would say before lowering your difficulty scale, take a look at who you are taking and what skill sets your are using also, lots and lots of potions and have the NPCs set to take a swig of potions when their life is >25%.

For the Zombies, make sure you do EVERYTHING before nightfall. All the little things to help out the villagers to survive.

Dragons, well... they are a pain in the, well you know. They are magic resistant to SOMETHING. every. single. one. of. them. Best way to proceed is to hack, hack, run, heal repeat.

Sten is pretty silly actually, if you can avoid putting him in your team. Oghren or however you spell his name will be a better subsitute later down the line if you must need a two handed weilder in your group

also I don't think you mentioned what class you're playing? The best way to roll (imo) if you want a smooth ride is one rouge/one tank and two mages. You really should hit up the mage's tower first. After that it's a smooth transition to redcliffe followed by the urn of sacred ashes.

if you don't like to micromanage your team e.g/ pausing the game and controlling everyone- I would suggest you look up tactic guides online for each party member. there are quite a few handy ones.
I'm doing a dual weapon warrior. I got stuck on the werewolves stuff because I don't have AoE magic, so I might as well go to the tower now that Morrigan is close to Cone of Cold.

got it, well make sure you have wynee then. invest in some of the glyphs or the hexes. Leliana not so good with a dualweilding rouge but as an archer she's quite good. Yeah get other stuff done and finish the forest after redcliffe/mage circle/ashes

I got stuck in this part too. the problem is , if you fight the undeads on the same place, all of them will come to you, and soon you will be fighting like 8 zombies at once. What I did was press H to order my team to hold position then use a character who could detect traps (Lelianna) go ahead and lure little groups of enemies. Doing this i could clear every room in the castle easily.
Note: I didn't have Wynne in my party
Note 2: Remember to save after every little fight, in case you mess up in the next room
Note 3: If you step in a tripwire, all zombies will come for you

Give Leliana a bow after her Party Quest she will be stronger
And i would say if you need Aoe Magic Skill First Skill on Fire and Thunder
(Bad English)

My Party is:
Me Twohanded
Alistair Tank
Morrigan Mixed Mage
Leliana Support Archer
