Game won't save graphic settings
Anyone know a fix for this problem?, every time I exit and enter the game again, the graphic settings reset to default, very very annoyng, since it puts the default low resolution too . Windows 8.1, compatibility mode witn vista sp2 for it to not lag.

1. Start the game and set your preferred graphic and audio settings then close the game again

2. open your registry with regedit and search for this key:
#HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\ea games\need for speed undercover

3. use the export funktion and save it to a .reg file somwhere you find it easy

4. open this .reg file in a text editor like MS Notepad
should look like this:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\ea games\need for speed undercover] "g_CarEffects"=dword:00000003 "g_WorldFXLevel"=dword:00000003 "g_RoadReflectionEnable"=dword:00000000 "g_WorldLodLevel"=dword:00000002 "g_CarLodLevel"=dword:00000000 "g_FSAALevel"=dword:00000003 "g_RainEnable"=dword:00000000 "g_TextureFiltering"=dword:00000002 "FirstTime"=dword:00000000 "g_PerformanceLevel"=dword:00000000 "g_VSyncOn"=dword:00000001 "g_ShadowEnable"=dword:00000003 "g_SmokeEnable"=dword:00000001 "g_Brightness"=dword:00000044 "g_ShaderDetailLevel"=dword:00000000 "g_AudioDetail"=dword:00000001 "g_AudioMode"=dword:00000001 "g_Width"=dword:00000780 "g_Height"=dword:00000438 "g_Refresh"=dword:0000003c "g_CarDamageDetail"=dword:00000002
5. change the path of this text to the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EA GAMES\need for speed undercover]
6. save the .reg file and execute it to add the new keys to your registry

7. start Need For Speed Undercover and enjoy :-)

PS: No need for any compatibility modes!

Oh, there is need for compatibility modes for this game.. I also just today discovered that the game runs much smoother in XP SP3 compatibility mode - else it's a stutter fest..

Several years late, but A) has an easier fix come around and B) if not, can someone explain this one for an idiot like me.

After Step 2
"2. open your registry with regedit and search for this key:"

I'm totally lost. I can't tell what I'm supposed to do from the instructions.

Try NFS Undercover Generic Fix by ThirteenAG, it should solve most of problems with saving setting, as with it you can make the game save settings to .ini file in your save folder and use these settings from the file.

Click the windows home button on your desktop, or press the windows key once. Start typing "Registry Editor" (should come up as the first option in the windows search). In the Registry Editor, you will see a folder structure on the left hand side. Open the folder structure to: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\ea games\need for speed undercover

Then continue following the instructions, from the original post.
