EDIT: The Steam version doesn't have the 4 core bug. It's fine on my i9-9900k. But it crashes on origin version due to it using the most updated version, the steam version was luckily, never updated.
Well, most Windows XP era and newer games run just fine under Windows 10 (sans those with crappy copy protection schemes) and I'm not sure why I'd need to have any other Windows version co-installed just to be able to run older games.
It's all kinda crazy: they need an old OS to run according to you, but the Origin PC client requires at the very least Windows 7.
Anyways, what's done is done, I've got an Origin version and it works just fine with HT/SMT disabled despite me having an 8-core CPU.
I haven't noticed that many bugs except being unable to save settings - which the Steam version also features prominently and requires a small registry hack. The game obviously doesn't know about a 64bit Windows.
It's highly recommended you ThirteenAG's fix when it comes to unable to save settings for UC. The settings are stored in the registry, and it might cause issues with 64-bit OS. ThirteenAG's fix uses a wrapper so it'll be saved in your documents folder if enabled.
The game works fine, along with 99% of the games that was designed on XP on w10. Some games might have some issues like sounds and such, e.g Max payne. But luckily, there are mod fixes for a lot of games.
Unfortunately, the only version of the fix to work with that platform has been deleted off of Appveyor's servers.
First things first, its not a 4 core bug, the origin and 1.0.1.18 patched steam copies can boot with up to 10 logical cores enabled or spoofed via SpecialK (maybe even 11, i didn't test), 12+ logical cores isn't possible though.
Secondly, PCGW has a download for the 1.0.1.17 version that can be used to convert steam 1.0.0.1 and origin 1.2.1.1 to 1.0.1.17 (i had issues downgrading steam 1.0.1.18 patched).
This 1.0.1.17 conversion has neither the Framerate issues, or Logical core issue that 1.0.1.18/1.2.1.1 has.
64bit isn't the issue, without elevation, this game writes into the registry virtualstore location, this location isnt available to games launched with XP compatibility, which is a recommended way to improve performance for the 1.0.1.18 copy (but is not possible with specialk spoofing the core count)
SpecialK requires that the exe be 4g patched, otherwise it crashes before loading screen.
