Idol Showdown

What happened to the playerbase?
I left the game for two months and player base dropped to 300 at best? Where are all people?? I know Streat Fighter 6 is came out but please don't use that as an excuse.
I hope people will not abandon it...

1. A lack of content.
2. Fighting games tend to lose their player base quickly.
3. Slow roll-out of new content. This is especially problematic since its a FTP game.
4. Missing features that have been standard in fighting games for a long, long time.

I think that's the major issues.

Idol Showdown is what we call a "discord game", its not abandoned per se, the player base is just centralised into one or two communities. 300 at best is actually amazing for a game of this size, look poor DnF. Millions more dollars in funding and they scrape by at barely 19 players daily.

Idol Showdown is gonna live on for at least one more month.

Edit: I just checked the data and compared IS to several other games and IS is actually in the big girls league, with player numbers alongside Skullgirls, Granblue, UNI, Guilty Gear XRD 2, etc. That is incredibly impressive. This game is very not dead.

The game was hyped because it was a free fighting game. People played it and realized it's based off idols and not many people fit into the idol AND anime fighting game niche. It's surprising the game even has 300 people playing. Game is good but, aesthetics are for weebs and no serious fighting game player will take this game seriously.

Speaking of Discord, do you know any server? Because I searched here and on Discord but found nothing. I even thought about creating one by myself because honestly it's such a shame, especially if it's amazing as you say compared to other game.
I wanna help players to find each others so, yeah I did it: made a Group on Steam and a Server on DIscord just in case really didn't exist before (probably just me who missed them).

Yeah, was one of them, knew nothing about Hololive, always wanted to watch a stream but never felt in the mood to spend 6h to watch somebody I don't even know. Then this game came out, started to watch some clips, eventually got into it. Still like the game for what it is, mind you, good fighting game.

fighting games that are not in the biggest of franchises generally dont keep much of a playerbase once their newness wears off.

People will play anything as long as it's fun, I really doubt this is the reason.

What is more likely is the buggy state of the netcode after pekora came out drove people off (lobbies crashing, sound disappearing after some matches, etc.) That and this game doesn't really feel like a highly balanced "take it seriously" title so people probably returned to their main game after playing this a bit.

More updates will come and I'm sure the players will come back too.

That's the fate of most FG, there will always be a decline then new players will have a hard time because their opponents may be too strong and stuff so they'll change games.

Ah, that's true! Most of the time I spend up to 40 hours learning the game and one or two specific character but Online usually end without even landing an hit with the opponent punching you around till you die, but it get fun after a while especially if you don't give up.

it helps if you already have a history with fighting games, so you just have to learn the specifics of any given game.

then you just have to learn the BnB combos with your chosen character(s) and you can actually end up winning some of the time.

i got into a bunch of franchises really late, myself, so i know it's discouraging to go online and get your ass handed to you. but, like any skill, keep t it, and you're sure to do better.

Like some have mentioned, Idol Showdown is mainly active on private lobbies from discord which explains the lack of public lobbies.
