Why is this not popular?
It looks so good. How is the gameplay?

For a lot of people the game is too difficult it seems. Just take a look at the topics here, half of them are about complaints that the game is too hard.

If you have capability to learn over time, don't start raging the moment you die and are at least average at games it is really good.

Gameplay is smooth, no issues there. Some background quests might be bugged or troublesome to progress at least but overall it is of no consequence. It is a very solid roguelike if you are into the genre you will most likely enjoy it.

Well, dying is essential part of the game loop, without it the genre doesn't make sense. That doesn't explain its unpopularity. I was wondering about the fun factor when I asked about the gameplay, not about its functionality.
I like Isaac, Dead Cells, Skull and Hades. Maybe I should check it out myself.

It is fun and it plays similar to Dead Cells because it is also a side scroller.

When it comes to runs, it is more like Isaac, you can get broken combos to roll over breakdown 15 no problem or just nothing special and struggle in places.

As for unpopularity, I guess the game is famous for being too hard and lack of marketing maybe. It was in EA for quite a while and then it just released but you know how it is, people take an early look and rarely come back and make videos/stream games at 1.0.

this game is dead af bro. Devs don't give a rat's ass about the balance and Breakdown 10+ difficulty. 95% of the players didn't even reach that tho. if you reach B10 as I did you will notice how ♥♥♥♥♥ up the balance is and why there are only 2-3 playable builds

have been playing for 80 hours, had many hopes for this game. I really wanted this one to shine. But, devs got their money and killed the game

Rouge games traditionally have a long, and more importantly continuous development process. You can't just move on when you 'finish' it, because probably it hasn't been finished. A lot of threads points out an uncooked game so far. Well, thanks for your answers.

I wanted to love this game when I tried it, but the lack of permanent upgrades killed it for me (I've only played Hades and Vampire Survivors so I guess I'm pretty casual when it comes to the genre).

For me, the gameplay is quite shallow. I've been playing for 5 hours and find it kind of boring. Which is too bad, because the artstyle is amazing. The levels are very bland when it comes to gameplay. There are different themes, but the layout of them are very samey. The only hard enemies in the game are the bosses. So it's very frustrating to spend 10-20 minutes in a run, then run into the boss, get killed and doing it all over again.

I know, it's a roguelike. But in other games like Isaac, Dead Cells etc. There is a sense of progression, even on Isaac which has so many cool items.

Too unnecessary hard, shallow RNG, Weapon is a meh along with bad RNG plus upgrading the scythe weapon isn't satisfying when the game is on Breakdown V and above (Extremely expensive soulary cost)

I think it is because of the curbside that the game has on learning all of its mechanics, it has too many weapons and you have to be able to recognize which is the purpose of each one, for example you wont be using "tornadmin" to manage a boss, but it helps a lot in the last departments when you face too many enemies at the same time,

I thing what bothers me the most is the Time Department here the enemies are just sponges and do tons of damage,

Time Department becomes the fricking platform game is the most obnoxious. I mean if you fail to jump, your Health bar also go bye bye

the only selling point of this game is the art-style.

Unbalance difficulty, too many useless curses, too many useless weapon, need certain build on high difficulty, unnecessary level design. :BEgloomy:
Suddenly I don't feel so disappointed this isn't on GOG.
