Thoughts from returning player
I played this a bunch when it first released to EA, and loved it. I notice a lot of things have been improved and balanced, and a fair bit of content added, but one of my least favorite aspects of the game still persists.

Not getting a control center until the 3rd or 4th or never Biome REALLY pisses me off. Like a lot. There should be some kind of RNG protection that guarantees one at some point before the 3rd boss. And again before the last. I've never played a rogue lite before that locks an important upgrade path behind the RNG of it just not ever appearing. Even Dead Cells lets you upgrade between each biome.

There is a protection to that. You are guaranteed either a control room or shop in world 2, the choice between a shop and control room as the final level in world 3, and one scattered somewhere in world 4 or 5.

I swear I've gone to the world 3 boss without ever getting the option for one several times...

It seems to be working now. Not sure what was up. Probably something weird with me not having fired up the game for a very long time.

My other big complaint is how bad so many of the cloaks and spells are. I feel like the worst ones should be better to use than scythe, but there's a bunch that are just abysmally horrible.

Make a list, suggest some buffs, stuff is always changing. I would argue almost everything is viable with the right build.

Yeah, I was at work, I definitely need to make a list. But off the top of my head that flower that throws fire on the ground is probably the worst spell I have EVER come across, bar none. Like, it's bad and can't even be made good with any curses that I can think of. The poison dagger ability like, it's not AWFUL, but it's not really good enough to not sell for soulary either, you know? The long range poison ball spell isn't very good either. But yeah, I'll try to make a list as I come across the ones that are really egregiously bad.

Next thought: I just started difficulty 3, and the added defense on enemies completely nullifies A LOT of different attacks and tools, which feels real bad. I know it's supposed to be harder, but so many things end up doing zero that they just become worthless. Things like butterfly procs are now wasted curses, low damage multi hit cloaks and spells all lose monstrous amounts of value. It really shifts the meta from "sort of balanced" to "singular big hard hits or bust". Which, should probably be addressed somehow.

Edit: It also makes the third section of the sickle attack, the multi hit part, do 0 damage. This is also really stupid. Especially for only being on difficulty 4 (of 10+). Like, what a giga nerf to the weapon. Should probably increase minion HP, not defense. Defense is way too imbalanced from an overall toolkit perspective.

Edit2: The dash projectiles on the sickles is ... awful. why are those even there? They're not even useful to proc imbues they're so bad.

Also, the long slow attack string weapons (Twinsie and that mace like thing) serve zero purpose. All enemies either A: die before you get that far in the string, B: Are bosses and don't sit still long enough for you to get that far in the string. Or C: are stun immune, so you're gonna get hit if you try to get that far into the string. There's like... Maybe 1% use cases for those strings if you can get a high health target stunned, but otherwise, I feel like the attack strings are extra long for no reason and serve no purpose except to frustrate players.

I regularly comeback just for check is flat damage reduction still there or not, If I remember correctly it's in crisis 3 or 4. until I forgot and move on xD

I agree with everything you've said so far i this thread. Maybe suggest it as feedback to the devs, because I would like to see these changed as well.

Sepurchurals damage per shot is so low because it's purpose is to apply arcane without needing to use a curse slot
