Can barely find any heals in game
So I just bought the game and played for a bit over 1h and I keep dying to brad. Getting closer to killing him(got him down to 20% health last try), but in all my runs I've basically had 0 heals or 1 blue heal that healed me like 5hp from 40. Am I missing something? This would be so much easier if I could just heal. I'm always low hp and can never heal since I don't have any and even if I have 1 it heals me like 5hp max

I literally came to the forum to ask the exact same question. I LOVE the game and I don't think it's too difficult or anything - I'd just like more access to heals/drops so I could utilize all of the max health upgrades Im getting, and/or try out a build with the curse that ups your damage for every heal you've popped (I don't recall the name).

I'm not sure how many hours I have, but I've finished the "last" boss twice now, have played quite a bit, and I'd say I get a heal maybe once per floor on average - sometimes less. They are also fairly expensive to get elsewhere.

I don't want items to drop to make the game easier, but the scarcity of drops from regular mobs kind of makes them feel like they aren't worth wasting time fighting...

I thought I might be doing something wrong as well, because in the last dev update I saw they mentioned that people felt like there may be too many health drops, and again, my experience has been much different.

Amazing game btw.

Yea I don't think the game is too hard but the no heals is really rough. I'll definitely get through brad very soon once I learn his moves and just go at it a bit slower instead of just rushing him, but I don't how you're supposed to heal. Are you just supposed to do a no hit run to beat the game since heals basically dont exist?

they just increased the level of heals in the game in the last big patch

Thanagers (minibosses) will always drop an anima now, and (you can even buy them between stages once you get past the first boss. The thing is this game highly rewards skilled play because no matter how much anima you get you can only heal the greyed out bar of HP - any HP that is fully gone needs a yellow anima or a "pure heal" (from the big cups of coffee or the rest area rooms in stages). If you take too much damage too quickly even finding heals won't save you, and that's by design

Got you so can buy more once you kill Brad? Because up to Brad I get 1 or 0 heals(most of the time 0) even if I fully clear all stages. So this game should be played a bit slower then and more methodical?

Yeah after you finish Brad (and all of the main bosses after that) you go to an inbetween break-room where there's a fridge that sometimes has three anima in it, or at the least a free buff, and a water cooler where you can buy anima.

Also try doing the vita-mana rooms if you're hurting for heals.

Like Von said, it really boils down to just playing and learning the enemy mechanics and eventually you wont need heals much. Just get your combos down and memorize the mechanics and you'll get it down for sure. I was stuck on Brad for a bit as well but now I can usually get through it without getting hit. The biggest thing for me was learning to stop rushing down the bosses and play it alittle more like a Souls game, just picking your openings and knowing when to let up. I do still think the health system needs some work though...

This was exactly what I submitted in feedback.

I felt the same way at first (and even posted about how hard the game seems). But now that I've gotten some experience and unlocked a few spells - dark claws is awesome to spam (I'm still a noob) - things have become a lot more manageable.

Its not that you can't get used to it - question is why? Many games already do this better and that is the point. With hundreds of options I have know incentives to keep playing. It is not that the game is inherently bad; just mares the experience. The thing that stops this from shinning is lack of different regions generated and punishing you for exploring.

If anyone is still interested in the healing system etc, Im going to make a post, then edit this comment and link it.

I've actually walked back my opinion on the health system/anima drop rates and with just a few changes in the way I played, the heal system felt completely different and worked pretty damn well.

Link to my post coming shortly.

no its not
its pretty broken on both sides
right now its basically just "dont take damage" until you can get life steal or a heal spell where it then turns into "destroy the game"
devs said in the last major content update that basically all heals are gonna get a nerf

to be honest I wouldnt mind lifesteal to get a little nerf but like come on, at least let me heal for free after the last boss of a level, using the souls you collect to get a basic heal isnt very helpful, I would know, I´ve reached level 3 a couple times and I always need healing, combat is very fun but not worth it because you only get to lose hp for the bosses if you fail, not really any rewards in engaging

Hello!

We know that the game still needs to be balanced because HAND is stiil in Early Access and that there are issues. That's why your feedback is very precious to us, it's nice to see you discuss on our different networks and take time to give us feedback!

I've beaten Brad and Grimes and have the same issue; what makes it "worse" is that I so often get items that give me more max hp (I had runs with about 200 max hp) that I feel getting spammed but got only 1 or 2 coffees; seeing your hp shrink so much without it ever going up sort of ruins the feeling of getting stronger; and the anima heal is not enough imo; healing for 5-10 hp when one enemy attack takes 10-35 is a bit harsh
wildghoul Jul 3, 2022 @ 3:41pm
I would much rather have a "block" button instead of heal. and maybe implement a counter attack if done soon enough from an enemies attack
