Difficulty?
Not looking for a "soul-like". lol

How does saving / progression work? Are we looking at possibly 10-15 hrs of play time?

This isn't a metroidvania, its a 2D roguelike game like Dead Cells, so playtime can range upto hundreds of hours since everytime you die you return to the beginning. You will have many different builds and levels are randomly generated. There will be atleast 5 departments you progress through, difficulty is not hard either, it starts of easy and slowly gets difficult as you progress to higher departments.

Check out the developer livestream that happened today for more information.

mix between Skul and Hollow Knight with dead cells as the template for porgression

I've played this game for over an hour now, and I can say it's difficult so far :) But that's the good thing, I do like a challenge! If you enjoyed playing Dead Cells or Hollow Knight this might be for you. I'm loving it so far!

It doesn't seem very forgiving with health pick ups as a first impression, but the monster themselves in the first two biomes (out of 5 i assume) are not that threatening.
Progression seems to be unlock based, i see no stat upgrades which is a good thing. It does feel like another flavor of dead cell so far, with branching routes between each sub stages like StS or Hades.

its nothing like hollow knight to be honest. just because its 2D doesnt = HK the only thing that remotely even looks like HK in this is the fact you are playing a small skeleton figure in 2D maps. the arena concepts i guess are there but its not like your kit is stationary, it will change depending on dying or not which means having to replay through the levels and re-make your kit again. so its really nothing like HK besides vague resemblance in the looks, I guess but even then thats reaching. this game is More like Hades in a 2D perspective than it is like HK.

the moveset being super limited, and the themes. the boss fights can be a bit over the top.
you dont have screen filling monsters liek in Skul, and you don't have highly techincal Dead cells multi phase bosses, either.

How grindy is it though? As someone who isn't very good, Dead Cells is pretty grindy to unlock anything.

Most Weapons and spells seem to unlock pretty fast especially if you focus on the objectives to nuke the price into the -95% cost range. Food on the other hand have far more grindy requirements to reduce the costs. I'd say it's more generous than both of these games overall when it comes to unlocks.

some weps and items are mad expensive, but they all have secondary unlockable goals like " defeat X enemy so many times " etc, which reduces the price of ingot needed down 25, 50, 75 and 95% off
