Game doesn't start on Macbook

My girlfriend bought the game on her Macbook but when pressing start, it keeps 'loading' the icon like the app is trying to open. Then after a few seconds it says "Application not responding". Any idea as to why this problem exists and how to fix it? She can't get into the game screen at all, no black screen or anything.

Hey there! Sorry to hear yall have ran into this issue. This is a new one for me so I'm not quite sure what's going on but lets see if we can resolve this!

Firstly, did you guys try uninstalling and re-installing the game on Steam?

Also, does the issue happen when you try running the game from the Steam Library instead of clicking on the icon from the desktop? If you haven't tried that, I suggest doing so to see if the game boots up properly from Steam's client.

Let me know if either of these things resolve the issue otherwise I'll keep digging! If you're still having issues, please provide me your girlfriend's Macbook model and OS version. Maybe there's something wrong with the model or OS that I can try to look into more.

Hey! First of all thank you for replying this fast.

We did try uninstalling and re-installing the game, this did not work. We also tried both the icon on the desktop and the Steam Library start-up, both don't work (if I may also add, the desktop icon is just the Steam logo, unlike other games where it has the actual game logo as an icon, this is just a little thing and not a problem at all but just so you know!).

The Macbook is an Air M2 2022 running on MacOS 13.6.9. We also tried reinstalling the Steam client in hopes that it would change something but that also hasn't helped.

Sorry to hear that the re-install didn't work :(( that's also really strange about the icon too! We've tested Smushi before on MacOS 13.x and didn't have any hiccups, but maybe there's an issue specifically with 13.6.9. (We tested on a Macbook Pro, but still there shouldn't be any compatibility issues with the Air). Lets try a few more things though:

- Make sure all other applications are closed when launching the game.

- Try verifying the game files to see if Steam can detect an issue. You can do this by going to your Steam Library > Right click on Smushi Come Home > go to properties > Installed Files > Select "Verify Integrity of Game Files".

- If the game still isn't launching, try uninstalling the game, updating your OS, and re-installing the game. As I mentioned earlier, maybe there's a compatibility issue with that specific version you're on so updating your Mac could resolve it. I've tested it on our Macbook Pro running MacOS 14.5 just now and everything seems to be fine on that version.

We tried rebooting the Macbook to make sure all applications were closed and now it works! I'm not sure what exactly caused it then, probably something that was open in the background interfering with the application?

Anyways we thank you for your help, now she can bring Smushi home :)
