I hope most of the game wasn't this challenging for you in regards to the platforming! I'd suggest tilting your camera so that it's pointed towards the ground a bit more, so you can see where you're jumps are aimed as that might help you with this section of the game a bit more! <3
Unfortunately that review is pretty misleading... There is a rrquired section where you have to complete a small obstacle course (platforming challenge) but it has checkpoints and there's also an easy mode for it for those that don't do well with precision platforming :) Hope this helps!
How frequent are those checkpoints, for one thing? Is there any chance of having to repeat a series of jumps over and over again? Are there moving platforms in easy mode? Can I get a feeling for the level of platforming during the first 2 hours so I can refund the game if it's too much for me?
One thing to note is Smushi has hooks that let you latch onto terrain and objects. This plays a big part in most of the platforming, so the hooks are there to help you make jumps a bit easier for some things. Also the leaf glider is there to help as well!
And to answer your checkpoint question for the obstacle course challenge: they're quite frequent as you'll have a checkpoint for each lil' room that's in the obstacle course :) There are a few moving platforms in the "easy" mode that are pretty slow and large so it's much easier to land on them. This whole obstacle course challenge takes away your glider and climbing hooks, so it's just pure platforming but again it's made to be quite easy with the "easy mode" enabled. I haven't had any complaints on beating the course with easy mode enabled and most people who play Smushi don't really play a platformer games :D
Just note that the obstacle course is the only thing that has these "checkpoints". So if you fall in other areas of the game, you'd have to climb your way back up. But I haven't had any complaints on the difficulty of these other areas since it's designed to be very light and simple with the help of your climbing hooks and glider :) Hope this helps!
