Why craft/upgrade shovels?

The game acts like they "dig faster." Every shovel I've ever had (the rusty one and the first one you craft) digs things out instantly. Why bother upgrading to "better" shovels?

The better shovels dig the more valuable treasures faster. You'll notice that while the low value treasures are instant the more valuable ones give you the "Look what I found" type messages and still spin.
