First Fight with the gator feels rigged
Seriously... The healing dice rolls are constantly low, he always gets high rolls... I swear it feels rigged somehow on the dice rolls alone. And why does he have better dodge than me? he has a 3 and I have a 5 at least I should dodge a bit more than him. He just pulled 3 successful dodges on me.

because it is. You don't have the items or abilities to beat him yet. You're pretty clearly supposed to learn that sometimes it's worth it to just pay up and avoid a fight imo

In fact the thing is... it's not rigged at all.

you can save scum through him if you want, but keep in mind that there are 2 "dodges" in the game : your accuracy isn't 100% so either you miss or they dodge but they are regrouped in the dodge etiquette.

Also he let you off the hook if you put down to half hp (so he's rigging it against himself).
But thomas start with 3 (or 4) in str and his specie is far from being the strongest at fighting (low base hp), and no training at all.

by late game you can one or 2 shot any opponent in the game, but start really weak.

no you can sip an alcoolique drink and suddenly your damage is up by 50%

dmg calculation : you have 3 str so +3 base dmg leading to dmg = 6-8 +3
with alcool you gain a flat +4 leading to 6-8+7 and the fight becomes WAY easier.
Of course you need to befriend the good person for that (maybe there is some alcool in the cabinet of beth along with the gloves, I'm not sure)
I beat him using the 3rd Fox start, since the extra armor type can help with early damage. This also allowed me to beat the kangaroo in the fight.

bro just give him half your money, then bulk up and beat his ass on 2nd week or whenever you feel like it.

Its like rocky, you lost first, do training montage and then stomp that lizard flat on your heel.

You can absolutely beat Crunchy as any of the other starts. It does just come down to luck though.
Using only Unarmed Attack, 4-5 Bleed, 2 Criticals, 2-3 Dodges, and 1 Rest were enough to get him down to half without any item buffs for me.
Crunchy hit one Sand Throw, but if you lockpick the left cabinet upstairs during the morning you can get the Myopia Glasses for an extra 5% hit chance.

He's a lt. in one of the main gangs in the prison, and a darn crocodile.

Also, he won't attack you on the second week if you are 50~ rapport with him. So if you rush your rep up and give him some gifts before next monday he won't touch you.

I beat him both weeks. Took a lot of save scumming the first time but that was a test just to see if it could be done. The second time I prepped for the fight and obliterated him. He hit me one time only with a sand throw and the rest i dodged. Thomas just mocks him after.

"I'm just getting started and you're already down? ...Pathetic."

After the 'real' fight though it does the standard search or run bit, and Crunchy hates you from then on (like I care as he started it) but you get a bunch of fame out of winning. You can reconcile by paying him if you want his friendship but if I was going to pay him, I would have just skipped the fight.

You want to fight him though, because it's his bond barrier ^^

That fight could have served as a tutorial. But oh I wish that was the case.

You can skip the fight by just sitting down on the first bench and resting there until dinner time.
