[DISCUSSION] Shelly is the worst "retro shooter" protagonist

Shelly is a try hard, wanna be Duke Nukem female version. She doesn't have a shred of originality.
Does anyone besides me have this opinion?

Also: Phantom Fury only exists because they saw the Duke Nukem Forever 2001 leak hype and decided to capitalize on it.

Funnily enough she's way better in this game. She was kinda cringe and try hard in Ion Fury. She's more mature and less try hard in this game and some of her lines actually do sound kinda badass. I've never really ever liked female protags for retro shooters.

My favorite female protag for this genre is probably being The Patient from Nightmare Reaper. She's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ crazy and it fits with her character.

But none of them hold a candle to Duke, Caleb, Postal Dude, etc.

Im sorry, but i dont really buy that. The timing, the trailer style are too much of a coicidence to me.

Doomguy is great because he dont have a personality, per se. He keeps him to himself. And his silent and actions speaks louder than any words.

I would like to see Shelly more as a "girly/ferminine" protagonist. Instead of saying one liners/nods from action movies, how about make her as a "romantic movies/songs" lover kinda protagonist? Its just an idea.

She's one of my favorite character of all time! I was so excited when this game got announced, it's something which I very rarely get to feel. Last time I got that hyped was when I saw a Metroid Prime 2 commercial on television.

Bombshell was originally a blonde haired chick that was supposed to appear in DNF (early build) acting as a sort of foil or semi-archnemesis to Duke Nukem (in more like a Catwoman and Batman kind of way) sadly this cool concept was replaced with the trash Frederik come up with of making a generic female duke-clone with zero originality or well written lines.

Thing is, she looked way better in those early builds as well - here she just look like your average "worn-down female character"-wannabe, nothing on Ripley and Sarah Connor who both did this WAY better, Fred FAILED at making his own Sarah Connor. The danish man who knows nothing about making good game worlds or good game characters.

I really REALLY hope Fred looses his position as CEO, and most of slipgates directors and managers gets fired. I want a brand new CEO for the team, someone like me

Homoeroticism is cool tho, don't conflate homophobia with mysoginy. I'm gay and i fight for women's rights, but there is a difference between terribly written, trend-chasing "female strong worn-down characters" and interesting well-written unique female lead personalities, even anime that is usually accused of being sexist - Tends to have stronger better written female leads!

Never liked her (just lame Duke wannabie), but truth told I dont like many of fps characters. Imo better are silent protagonists with no story, because you dont have to deal with their (usually unfunny) comments. And females are usually even worse than males, they have all cringe stuff males have plus their badass-ness is even harder to believe.
And from characters that do talk I liked Caleb from Blood, and Lo Wang from old Shadow warrior games.
