2nd impressions, partway through the game
I posted my first impressions a while back. I kind of like the game. That's still true. The weapons are still the best part. The combat is still interesting so far, even if the enemies aren't super smart. I haven't encountered any glitches (aside from the one below). The game definitely has jank but I'm okay with some jank I'm having fun.

I like levels. I haven't had trouble telling where to go, aside from the last part of the train level. I'm not sure if I'm just good at navigating or if other people are bad at it. Either way, I haven't really gotten lost. There seems to be a decent amount of enemy variety too or at least the game does a good job of mixing things up.

I like the upgrade system. It's nothing flashy but some of the upgrades are interesting. It seems fairly easy to get enough points for most things, for better or for worse though. Maybe that changes later?

The first physics puzzle wasn't bad. The second one was annoying. Not a big deal but noticeable.

A lot of the complaints about the first boss that I've seen are based around doing the fight incorrectly. It's not a great fight but it's not bad. I'm just baffled people were screwing it up. It seems pretty straightforward.

The game feels a little easy on normal outside the first couple levels so you might want to play on something harder. Though when you screw up you die very quickly. The turrets have way too much health. There's no strategy to them either. It's either slowly kill them or try to run past them and hope you can tank the hits. I'm hoping this changes later on. They're not very frequent though.

There's no nice way of saying this but the car level feels unfinished. I couldn't tell if anything bad could even happen to you while you were in the vehicle. I just parked in the road and used the minigun on the roof to shoot cars coming at me, letting everything around me attack me. I made no attempt to drive away or try to defend myself. I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to work but it feels wrong, like you're playing with cheats on. The only glitch I've encountered since my last post was I had one of the cars despawn after I got out of it. There was another one nearby so it wasn't a big deal but I definitely noticed not where I left it 2 seconds ago.

Overall, I still like it but there's definitely some rough spots. The car section was a definite low point for me. But the rest has been a pleasant surprise considering how harsh people are on the game here.

Wow, this forum (more likely a handful of someones in this forum with hate boners for 3DR) literally gives any comment or post a jester award for saying they like the game or even that it’s decent instead of terrible. Reminds me of Forspoken, where people just refuse to believe the idea that a person could actually like something instead of hating it because it had been decided in the court of public opinion that the game is bad and everyone is supposed to hate it, without exception.

Agree with OP- I like the game overall but there are things that make it seem like it got released sooner than the developers were originally expecting and it shows more in some parts of the game than others.

Yeah. I kind of expected it. I'd rather give my honest feedback though, the good and the bad. That to me is part of what the Steam community is for, feedback from people playing the game. I like trying unpopular games every now and then. Often I agree with the hate but occasionally I'm pleasantly surprised.

I don't know why people are expecting super well polished games in the boomer shooter category (though I guess technically this is a Half-like). Sure, there's a few that met that criteria but a lot of them are rough on the edges. You kind of have to have a little taste for jank if you like the genre. I'm guessing they only stick to the big name games and don't explore anything off the beaten path. There's a lot of good games out there with rough edges. I just finished Vomitoreum, for example. It's a good game but the light power up is borderline unusable and it definitely had issues. I still had a lot of fun with it though.

Honest feedback is important, people should care about others wanting to express that. I feel like people try to make everything seem more extreme than it actually is nowadays- if it’s a good game they hype it up way too much, if it’s a bad game or they didn’t enjoy it, it’s “the worst game I ever played in my life”. I don’t know why they can’t be sensible and accurate.

Interesting theory and them only playing big indie FPS games like Dusk or Ion Fury, hadn’t thought of that angle. But I’m the same way, I like exploring the genre and finding less popular games outside of New Blood, Nightdive Remasters, and 3DR titles. I own Vomitoreum also, super weird game but I think Scumhead has the potential to release something amazing eventually, his art style is really unique and weird (in a good way) but the game definitely has some jank to it. That’s part of its charm, as far as I’m concerned. Also recently played a boomer shooter from a Japanese developer called The Citadel and it’s a really good, not super well known boomer shooter. Hedon Bloodrite is another unique one I recommend to people.

There are lots of good ones out there if you don’t expect perfection. People need to realize that these games are being sold for $10-$25 and are often made with teams of less than 20 people, so they shouldn’t expect writing, animation, and gameplay systems that rivals what you get from a AAA studio, made by 200-300 people and costs $60-$70.

What boss and what were they doing wrong?
Is that the big mech you have to fight? And what is the correct way.

I basically just used the can opener on him haha. Not sure if that is the right thing to do but it takes him out incredibly fast and since the weapon is called the can opener and you get it right before you meet him i figured it was kind of intentional.

I've really enjoyed it so far.
I'm still working my way through it but feel like i'm close to the end now.

I also really like the level design and enemies and the gun play / combat is awesome.

Only real complaint is that some of the big open levels feel fairly weak and that car level is terirble.

The first boss is the train helicopter, someone mentioned in another thread that the developers expect the player to have unlocked the bionic arm shield and to use that for cover and use the mounted turret guns to kill that boss. I didn’t have that upgrade yet, so I had to run around and take cover and finish the boss off with conventional weapons.

Agree with turrets. Some can be disabled by destroying the power nearby. You CAN destroy the car in the car level, but it has quite some build quality. Engine hood will catch fire before it explodes. It should let you force reload if that happens because on foot it's not going to end well and takes forever. Driving mechanics are plain bad. The car build quality is therefore a good thing... The way you should go is almost always indicated by an exit sign or some green light. The game doesn't teach you, but well... easy to find out, right? Select times an item you needed are too easy to miss. But there are walk throughsout there if you do not want to spend ages looking. I think the levels grow in quality too. Or maybe I get used to the way it is played. The enemy AI is very basic indeed. The communication update happens sometimes while action is still taking place. Encountered some gameplay bugs like in the bar where the zombie attack (or whatever) did not take place and I could not activate any weapon. Luckily all saves are available to load. No quick save is a good thing in this case. Although it SHOULD save right after you killed a major boss.
