Agree with OP- I like the game overall but there are things that make it seem like it got released sooner than the developers were originally expecting and it shows more in some parts of the game than others.
Yeah. I kind of expected it. I'd rather give my honest feedback though, the good and the bad. That to me is part of what the Steam community is for, feedback from people playing the game. I like trying unpopular games every now and then. Often I agree with the hate but occasionally I'm pleasantly surprised.
I don't know why people are expecting super well polished games in the boomer shooter category (though I guess technically this is a Half-like). Sure, there's a few that met that criteria but a lot of them are rough on the edges. You kind of have to have a little taste for jank if you like the genre. I'm guessing they only stick to the big name games and don't explore anything off the beaten path. There's a lot of good games out there with rough edges. I just finished Vomitoreum, for example. It's a good game but the light power up is borderline unusable and it definitely had issues. I still had a lot of fun with it though.
Honest feedback is important, people should care about others wanting to express that. I feel like people try to make everything seem more extreme than it actually is nowadays- if it’s a good game they hype it up way too much, if it’s a bad game or they didn’t enjoy it, it’s “the worst game I ever played in my life”. I don’t know why they can’t be sensible and accurate.
Interesting theory and them only playing big indie FPS games like Dusk or Ion Fury, hadn’t thought of that angle. But I’m the same way, I like exploring the genre and finding less popular games outside of New Blood, Nightdive Remasters, and 3DR titles. I own Vomitoreum also, super weird game but I think Scumhead has the potential to release something amazing eventually, his art style is really unique and weird (in a good way) but the game definitely has some jank to it. That’s part of its charm, as far as I’m concerned. Also recently played a boomer shooter from a Japanese developer called The Citadel and it’s a really good, not super well known boomer shooter. Hedon Bloodrite is another unique one I recommend to people.
There are lots of good ones out there if you don’t expect perfection. People need to realize that these games are being sold for $10-$25 and are often made with teams of less than 20 people, so they shouldn’t expect writing, animation, and gameplay systems that rivals what you get from a AAA studio, made by 200-300 people and costs $60-$70.
What boss and what were they doing wrong?
Is that the big mech you have to fight? And what is the correct way.
I basically just used the can opener on him haha. Not sure if that is the right thing to do but it takes him out incredibly fast and since the weapon is called the can opener and you get it right before you meet him i figured it was kind of intentional.
I've really enjoyed it so far.
I'm still working my way through it but feel like i'm close to the end now.
I also really like the level design and enemies and the gun play / combat is awesome.
Only real complaint is that some of the big open levels feel fairly weak and that car level is terirble.
The first boss is the train helicopter, someone mentioned in another thread that the developers expect the player to have unlocked the bionic arm shield and to use that for cover and use the mounted turret guns to kill that boss. I didn’t have that upgrade yet, so I had to run around and take cover and finish the boss off with conventional weapons.
