Unpopular opinion: stop crying, this is NOT Ion Fury 2 !
First of all, excuse me the click-bait title. But now that I got your attention, for those who compare Ion Fury with Phantom Fury:

How can you compare those games at all? Like, those two are totally different games, you clearly can see this within seconds. Comparing two games, just because they are clearly connected with each other, is not the way to go. I don't understand why people talk about Phantom Fury like "don't play this one play Ion Fury instead".
Can anyone explain me what you expect from 2 different developers, 2 different engines, 2 different graphic styles, 2 different gameplay-types at all? Do you expect the very same game? And if so: how could this even be possible? Is it that hard to see Phantom Fury as a standalone game, even if it continues the story of Ion Fury or the DLC?
It feels almost like comparing it with Dark Souls, Minecraft or Pokemon.

Btw: yes, I am aware of 3D Realms mistakes and the wrong decisions Slipgate Ironworks made in the past, also even their newest one - releasing this game with a good amount of bugs. Yes, I also had to replay one entire mission due to a bug and, what was even worse, I lost all my upgrades after the submarine level, and the lack of story in Phantom Fury was not their smartest move, so be sure if you criticize me that I'm not protecting 3DR or Slipgate at all.

Please, explain me what makes you so mad about this title. Thank you for reading! :winter2019happydog:

One is a very good shooter, the other is a rather poor one.

I don't think any of the issues people have anything to do with ion fury. Name aside looking at footage its obviously different but sure lets claim thats the issue people have, which what you listed is good bulk of issues along with new softlocks.

I'm still on my 1st playthrough...but so far I'd say it's not bad. Better than DNF and Bombshell lol.

It’s not perfect, I don’t think anyone is even saying it is. But it’s a serviceable late 90s/early 2000s shooter (I hesitate to use the word “boomer”, cus it really isn’t). But the ones saying the game is the worst release from Slipgate haven’t played 2013 ROTT or Bombshell. It’s a 7/10 for me and good enough for me to not be mad about paying $22 for it, now that they seemed to have fixed the biggest issues. I don’t defend the condition it launched in, which happens too often with too many games.

The perfect response to this is the Loverboy.

Same weapon in both games.

Totally unreliable and broken in Phantom Fury

If Gman, Zlim, and Civvie would have said the game was good, in its same exact launch state, people would be praising it as a worthy successor to Ion Fury. That’s all it takes for a niche indie game like this to give it a sales push. OR If it wasn’t a Slipgate/3DR game either, people would say it’s a decent indie FPS.

What? Works fine for me... only thing annoying me is the wonky physics for objects that either launch me up in the air or get me literally stuck inside them.

They had to patch it as it wasn’t reliable. Check the patch notes.

And it still doesn’t effectively target enemies. Just replay Ion Fury and you’ll see how slow and unreliable it is in Phantom Fury.

It wasn't unreliable. There was an issue where the weapon would deal 0 damage if you pressed primary fire, while the alt fire was also pressed, but it's quite possible you've never even used the primary.

Most complains i hear from people comparing Ion vs Phantom Fury is that Phantom fury has
- bad AI
- Low enemy variation

I like both games and the AI and enemy variation is about the same.

It is a different game then Ion fury so i cannot compare really. I also like DNF, especially the 2nd half but it is not really comparable to DN3D.

They even draw comparisons between the two in the steam trailer.

Is that how people realistically use the Loverboy? I've never even thought to use primary fire in the midst of targeting enemies with alt-fire. Why would someone even need to do that? Just let off the right mouse button(or left trigger on a controller) if you need to fire normally.

It’s not just that. It simply isn’t as quick and fun to use as in Ion Fury.

This thread is bait.....

I don't think Phantom Fury is poor. It's mediocre and definitely competent. It's just missing...something. What it is? IDK. But there's a solid foundation here and the level design for the most part is REALLY good. It's no Cultic...but you can feel there's potential.

On the other hand I hate how they've really...removed and sense of edge/balls to Shelly's character. The voice actor does such a great job in Ion Fury and here it's just kind of..meh. Doesn't help that the lines she reads are pretty uninspired.
