This is base on the PC version and not the 3D0 Version
After playing this game, this game isn't remaster from the 3D0 version, its base off the PC version. Level design and first few levels and interactive movie cuts are not even in the remastered version. has anyone notice this. Even the first level is not the same as the 3d0 version, its from the PC version.

Just thought you should know, in some ways the 3D0 is still better IMO, despite the upscaled new graphics. I don't know why they didn't fully remastered the 3D0 version. All good though, I'm having a blast playing it and basically the original PC version i never liked, but glad they upgraded it.

As someone who's played both, I honestly prefer the PC version.

I felt the same about their Powerslave remaster. Where they took the levels and progression from the consoles and mixed in the PC assets where they fit.

Like if you pit the two Killing Times back to back the PC versions levels are undoubtedly much better. While the 3DOs are very corridor shootery... if you know what I mean? But it still would have been cool to have the option to play the levels. Ya had all the assets didn't ya? Just leave the stuff you didn't have time to upscale untouched and call it a "Special Feature"

Like how in the Quake Remaster you can play Quake 64. With its micro sized levels, and dumbed down AI intact.

I remember in one of their pre-release interviews they explicitly said the remaster was based on the 3DO version's code because the PC code was quite messy in comparison. I thought that sounded odd because even in the trailers it was pretty obvious from the maps and enemies that the remaster was based on the PC version (granted, the PC version or at least the maps was the version I wanted, with the higher quality 3DO character assets). I'm willing to believe they ported the PC maps into Kex and are using the 3DO code to actually run the game, though.

And it looks like they did add in some things from 3DO into the game, such as the zombie ducks.

That tracks with the interview I was watching on Nightdive's youtube channel with one of their artists leading up the project. Where he was practically gitty (or as gitty as any tech worker would allow themself to be) at the fact they had pretty much all the original uncompressed assets from the 3DO port.

However, not to add another layer of confusion. During the interview he mentioned that because they didn't have the assets for the PC characters, they were redesigning them from the ground up and re-rendering them.

Maybe he mispoke, and was taking about the 3DO characters? Cause some of them have definitely had a glow up. Or maybe that didn't make the release and is might get patched in, cause the PC models definitely haven't been redone? It is strange that the key art on the library in the store page depict the PC clown model. When the 3DO model is on by default.

The 3D0 version was trash tbf, the only good thing about that was the enemy sprites and this port mix the best of both versions, so you have the bastly superior PC game of KT and the better enemy sprites and actors from the 3DO.

They used the PC map and the 3DO characters to have the best of both worlds.
This is for the best. I was curious and tried playing the 3DO version earlier and it's just awful. I'd love to know why the PC version was basically a whole-ass new game

I agree, but its always dissapointing to see content missing that could have easily been there. The original maps were not good at all. But what they were was a perfect example of a mediocre maze shooter. Like Aliens Trilogy. The kind of stuff that era of 3D gaming was known and reviled for.

Definitely not something that you could sell a remaster on. But it could be something you load into from the special features menu, to show your kids why being called a "DOOM Clone" was at one point a pejorative. Not having it at all feels kind of like cultural revisionism lol.

There is a modding sdk in the works so hopefully someone remakes the 3DO levels

The 3DO version of the game featured a more expansive and aesthetically pleasing house, with a spacious dining room and main hall. However, the PC version's house levels are shorter and lack the intriguing locations found in the 3DO version. While the PC version offers a larger outdoor area, it fails to compensate for the diminished indoor exploration, which was a key highlight of the 3DO version. The outdoor areas in the PC version exhibit a repetitive use of textures and assets, occupying an excessive amount of space in the game.

In contrast, the PC version presents a more realistic environment, whereas the 3DO version embraced a whimsical, dream-like quality that contributed to its charm. The music complemented the labyrinthine house mazes more effectively than in the outdoor areas.

Despite the reduction in house size, the decision to include additional explorable locations is commendable. It would have been advantageous to incorporate the 3DO levels as an optional mod, enhancing the overall experience. Nevertheless, this remaster is highly impressive.

Adding the 3DO campaign would be cool.

I imagine that it's because they realized that the 3DO version wouldn't sell on PC because it was so far behind PC shooters. It was largely a maze shooter reminiscent of Wolfenstein 3D, but PC shooters had moved well past that by 1995 to more realistically designed levels with large open areas. It had to compete with DOOM II, Heretic and Dark Forces, so they tried to bring the game up to date. Unfortunately, they didn't finish it until after Quake was released, so it still ended up being outdated.

Someone on discord said someone or the devs are working on releasing the 3d0 version/maps, but i don't see any mention about it. doubt it ever happens.

It would be a neat little update to put in the extras menu. But at this point I don't even really trust anything Nightdive actually says until it's done. What happened to VR in System Shock 2 enhanced Huh?!? For that matter what happened to System Shock 2 Enhanced?!?
