I encountered such a problem when you create your own lobby and invite your friend there, then he is not transferred to the lobby and he remains in the main menu of the game, although on the side it shows that he accepted the invitation,

I think there's some issue with people who join the game having to accept the game going through windows firewall. We got a popup to appear about it but it failed the first time we tried. Restarted the game and it just worked after we clicked accept.
