Indeed, there is a little bit fan service on water, but they were never the selling points cause Xtreme Venus existed, and if you actually pay attention to the story, it makes sense on the gameplay and story wise.
And people had and have played it just fine with WiiU gamepad, then the same with either gyro control or traditional stick aiming on modern platforms.
In other words, I think it's a you problem, not the game, but it's okay if you dislike it, just don't be a petty whining on others who enjoyed the game.
