Anyone else leveling up really slow after reaching level 6?

I defeated the first real boss I think and I'm still level 6. In the black street area.

I had the same issue - seemed like i got stuck at level 6 and stopped gaining experience (I had exactly 231/1200 I believe)

There's a trinket "Eye of the Abyss Amulet" in the Shelter which will block you from receiving any experience from the enemy.

I think that is designed for people who wants to challenge the achievement "limit-breaking" or simply want to beat the game with extremely low level.
