Technical FAQ #2 - how to launch the game via Virtual Desktop

How to launch the game via Virtual Desktop (Steam)
1. Connect Oculus to PC via AirLink or Link.
2. Launch Virtual Desktop (VD) Steam and make sure VD detects Oculus.
3. Launch SteamVR and wait for SteamHome to launch.
4. Launch the game via Steam. There are several options:
a) While in the headset in the SteamHome
b) While in the headset, minimize the SteamVR application, go to Virtual Desktop using OculusDash, launch the game there and go back to the SteamVR.
c) Take off the headset and launch the game.


How to launch the game via Virtual Desktop Steamer
There is another version of VD that can be downloaded for free. It is mentioned on the store page on Steam. This app is called Virtual Desktop Streamer.
The main difference is that you need to buy VD in the Oculus Store.

1. Launch VD Streamer on PC.
2. Enter your Oculus account name. Virtual Desktop Streamer -> Accounts -> Oculus Username(s).
3. Launch VD on Oculus but first make sure that both PC and Oculus are using the same network.
4. Launch the game, there are also several options:
a) Launch the game via the SteamVR VD and make sure that Oculus is logged into SteamVRHome, then launch the game.
b) Launch SteamVR via PC and make sure Oculus is logged into SteamVRHome, then launch the game.
c) Launch the game via VD in the Games menu.

What if a critical error appears and SteamVR doesn’t detect headset while launching via Virtual Desktop
1. Launch SteamVR on PC.
2. Go to the settings tab.
3. Go to the Startup / Shutdown tab and select the MANAGE ADD-ONS tab.
4. Find Virtual Desktop Streamer (Quest) and turn it on.
After these steps SteamVR will connect Oculus to the PC.
