Audio pops on M1 Mac
I just tried the demo on my Mac after seeing Ben Jordan's video. I love the concept but I have found that using an M1 Macbook pro 16 (max) on Ventura 13.3, that there are quite a few audio crackles using the mac speakers. I've tried it with Mainstage, Komplete Kontrol and Ableton Live and seem to get the best performance with Ableton Live using only built-in devices, but there are still distracting pops and crackles.

Is anyone else experiencing these? Would love to buy the program to support the developer. Perhaps this doesn't happen in the full version?

The demo version is the same as the full version, the only limit being you can't open projects and you have a limited number of points. Since Midinous isn't a DAW but does use an audio device for MIDI timing, there may be some interaction between the audio device Midinous uses and other audio programs. Try changing the audio device in options menu and muting the internal synth in Midinous. I unfortunately can't speak for other programs, you may have better luck reaching out to their support teams.

Thank you for the feedback. It was super helpful. I was already muting the internal synth and couldn’t figure out why it was still causing issues with audio. I changed the midinous audio output to the Microsoft Teams virtual out and it appears to have fixed the issues. The audio from Live, Kontakt and MainStage appear to be free of glitches now. I wonder if other virtual output devices would work in the same way, or if one could be included in midinous.

That's an interesting thought, sort of like a dummy device you can pick? I like that idea and will keep it in mind. Cheers

Yes I was trying the demo with FL Studio and had random popping / crunchy noises. I though it was FL Studio, so I closed it but still heard the noises.

I have an M2 MacBook Air.

Unfortunately I don't have any alternative audio outputs to test the above theory.

I am having pretty frequent crackling/popping/crunchy noises with the built-in synth as well. Also M1 processor (but MacBook Pro, running macOS Sonoma 14.1.1). Hmm. When I was having a similar issue with Bitwig, increasing the buffer size reduced the frequency of it happening.

I had this issue and it was indeed a conflict of both midinous and Ableton trying to use the same audio output. I happen to have a virtual output setup on my mac called blackhole. (google and install that if you can)
I route midinous to that and ableton to the onboard soundcard. There is then no conflict and no more popping or crackling.

Same problem here on Mac M1, both with internal synth or routed to Ableton Live; I followed @sandyMclandy suggestion and I routed Midinous to a different virtual audio output (pro tools audio bridge) and all the pops and glitches disappeared.

I haven't or reproduced this behavior as far as I know on my M2 with Midinous -> Ableton Live 11. I've tested with both VSTs and stock instruments. Perhaps it's because audio output device is set to BlackHole in Midinous
