To hear sound, enable the "Internal Synth" option. I would highly recommend just sending the MIDI data to another application like a Digital Audio Workstation. The internal synth is not very performant and should really only be used for reference. The internal synth will use the first available audio device on your system (usually your default device), so make sure if you're going to use the synth that your audio devices are set up appropriately.
