They even went out of their way to explain somewhere that it is a joke and they never have and never will actually condone cheating in the game.
Pretty sure there are several "cheat" cards that were made after this fact as a nod to the original rules for players to use and have a laugh about.
If you play this game with your friends and attempt to physically cheat, you are not playing within the rule set, you're just being a butt hole.
One of the games with the most house rules is probably Monopoly and I don't think anyone played this with the actual ruleset.
I also always played the game with cheating, trying to cheat without getting caught was the most fun of playing munchkin
