playing cards from the meadow
Hey everyone

I own the Everdell board game and I'm a bit confused about the rules. Been playing my first game against a medium AI and I have seen that it is possible to play cards directly from the meadow, while in the board game this is only allowed under specific conditions. Is this a bug or am I missing something here?

You may ALWAYS play a card from the Meadow or your hand, given that you own the resources to do that.
In the computer game here in steam, i sometimes couldn't play a card from the meadow even with all necessary resources in my store. In my case it was the school with the text: "you gain one victory point for every common critter" and in parenthesis a red number 6. What does that mean? Why couldn't a play the card?

I don't know why you couldn't play it. Did you reach the limit of 15 cards in your city?
The red number 6 in parenthesis only means that it would have been worth 6 victory points (you had 6 common critters).
The school is also a Unique construction, which means you can only have one. Did you already have a school?

Cards can be played either from the meadow or from your hand, in both the computer game and the board game, there is no specific condition like you mentioned. If you couldn't play it, you either did not have the resources or it was a card with the Unique attribute and you already had one

I think this was the problem *g* It seems that I already had built the school

From the future but...

You've been playing the board game wrong then if you really do own it - what are these 'specific conditions' you speak of?
Terra Mystica or Spirit Island would terrify you if you managed to get something as simple as that wrong :)

probably referring to the Inn (plays 1 meadow card for 3 ressources less) and the forest location (let's you draw 2 cards from the meadow and play 1 for 1 less ressource)

If he was referencing those rules, it would make sense. In some instances, it specifically says you have to play the card from the meadow (and not from your hand). However, in a normal turn, you can play any card from your hand or from the meadow.
yes, I am totally aware that it's allowed to play from the meadow and it must be mind blowing to play your first time with the meadow actually beeing usefull.
I'm not sure if you'd be able to get 15 cards without using the meadow at all... :D
